1275, stage 1 kit rolling roaded at 162KPH (approx 100 miles an hour) got the paperwork to prove it  :gimme:

Anyway, i remember reading about the 5 spped boxes a few years ago and was under the impression that the 5th gear is the equivilant of a standard 4th gear its the gears inbetween that have altered so no faster but more gear changes to get there!

Most of the main stream 5 spd boxes: the 5th gear was an overdrive gear nailed onto the end of the laygear...
Traditional boxes 4th gear is 1:1 and the laygear is out of the drive train... the 5spd boxes took a battering because the 'route' the drive went through

Yes some later boxes (think swiftune did one) where 5th was 1:1 and all the gearset was as per 'traditional' 4 spd..

There is no point in buying a 5 speed gearbox.. You are better off spending your money on doing converison such as honda, vauxhall , k series..

Ive got a micra conversion, cost about £400 in total. More power and a 5 speed box. Best thing ive ever done.

Yes, one of (I think) six made for the BMH/ST run works Coopers in the late 1990's.

I had a very early 5 speed MINISPORT box with the 5th gear 'hanging' off the end of the gearset. It was an overdrive gear. You had to lift it up and over into 5th gear.
1st 4 gears were straight cut and 5th gear was helical. I have some pics of it somewhere. Will dig them out and post.
Used it for racing, but eventually sold it as 5th gear was a waste of time. Fitted a 3.76 ratio in 4 spd box and it runs perfectly.
