Early Steering Column - Any Changes To Later Ones?

Were there any changes made to the actual steering column during the various production runs?

I am trying to go back to the original (very simple) setup for my Mk. 1 which has been retro fitted with a much later cowl and switchgear. I believe the early cars didn't have the column lock/ignition switch and fancy stalk switchgear, but were there changes made to later columns to accommodate those fittings?

Advice much appreciated.

I think they are interchangeable; depending on how new, the bottom bush is different, and of course there's the steering lock and stalk(s).

Many thanks. So it should just be a case of replacing the 'modern' cowl with an early one and simplifying the wireing (plus the single indicator stalk) to revert to original?

your need the pesky white indicator collar for self cancelling

Hadn't thought of self cancelling. Guess I could do that as long as there is a flashing green light to remind me.......
