I got the clear lenses on the rear and its the bulbs that loose redness of the bulb, just repainted them and hey presto it passed

Its not the coil, in fact the RAC dont know what it is the only thing they found is the voltage at the coil with engine running is only 10v not 12v as it should be and they dont know why


You've got a ballasted ignition system, it's meant to be like that.

I had that problem.

The 12v supply was cutting out at the solenoid as the engine was crancking. Therefore not giving a 12v supply to the coil and not starting the engine.

A boost pack gave it just enough power to fire up but it wouldn't do it on its own.

I ended up taking a 12v supply from inside the car and running through a relay that sent 12v to the coil and by-passed the solenoid altogether. I've not had any problem with it since.

I put it down to a lot of botched jobs by a previous owner. There must be 15 miles of insulation tape in my mini. It's probably all that's holding the car together.
