hi guys,
I've got myself some metro 4 pots brakes and want to turn the discs down, move the calliper mounting holes and grind the edge of the calliper to get them under 10's. I've had a good search and can't find much info on how or where I drill the new mounting holes and how much of the calliper I need to grind off. I'm aiming to fit them under 10 inch revos if that helps anyone.

Also before you all rush and tell me it's unsafe and stuff, I've had a good look into it before so have already thought about dangers and things. I'll be getting a machine shop to modify them for me and I'll get them crack tested before I use them too.

Also if anyone has a set of the callipers that have already been modified for sale then I might be interested in buying them.

cheers
james

hard to do with 4 pots as the centre bleed nipple gets in the way.

I've just put up a set of modded 2 pot's for sale though.

I dont think the dangers outweigh the end product. Can't you space the wheels out to get more clearance? Or at least compromise and space the wheels out a few mm more meaning that's a few less mm you have to grind from the caliper. Either way 4 pots on a road Mini isn't really necessary at all, I doubt you'll even feel that much different from a decent 7.5" set up with good pads

I don't really think the dangers are that great if the machining and modifying is done properly by an individual that is competent. The miglias ran modified metro 4 pot setups for years under 10 inch wheels before alloy callipers turned up. I've never heard any horror stories from that and they will definitely be testing the calliper to its limits and creating brake temperatures that are far higher than what I can achieve on the road. The main reason I want 4 pots is that I can have a much better braking system under 10 inch wheels and it will cost me a lot less than a cooper s setup.

Fair play! Don't forget most Miglias are built with no expense spared, though. Good luck, keep us updated on your progress if you do ahead with it

They are built with no expense spared, however before all these alloy callipers started appearing the best brakes were metro 4 pots so they'd modify them to fit. This would of been back when metros were still fairly common too, so would of been more of a performance thing than a money thing. The migs try to save as much weight as possible too, surely if the 4 pots weren't worth the weight then they'd just have cooper s brakes instead?
