Oil pipe started leaking, bought a replacement braided hose type some months ago but due to ill health have only just got around to fitting it.
On taking the original pipe off I noticed the end that attached to the bottom of the block had a long threaded shaft, whereas the new pipe has identical fittings at each end.
Top fitting went in fine, bottom fitting went in with a little persuasion.
The problem I now have is that on refilling the oil (was doing a service at the time) and starting the engine, the low pressure light stayed on for maybe 5seconds, even after letting the engine idle and topping up the oil accordingly.
Once the light goes out, it doesn't relight and on checking with an oil pressure gauge there is approx. 32psi at idle, which raises as expected when revving the engine.
Could the shorter connection into the bottom of the block be causing the low pressure on start up? If perhaps the longer shaft on the original sat deeper to pick up the oil easier.
When the engine is at idle, holding the pick up pipe you can feel a 'bubbling' somewhat like the vibration of sucking the bottom of a drink through a straw. As though air is bubbling through, could this be a result of the shorter fixing not sitting deep enough to pull a steady flow of oil?
It stops when the engine speed increases and it's not resonance from the engine itself.
I suspect the pipe inside the steel braid is also of a larger i/d than the original which could exhaserbate the 'bubbling'.
My question mainly is, is it a problem that this happens at idle if the oil pressure is plenty high enough and it stops under revs. Or should I attempt to get hold of a fitment that sits deeper, as per the original?
Also, any idea why the oil light might stay on longer than before?
