so i've just spent my day fitting the stage 1 kit, put it all together gaskets etc etc. started the car up and she was going fine, but when i put my foot on the accelorator to rev it then it starts to die and cut out??

what have i done wrong? i havent adjusted the carb at all yet, so if its that then i'm not gonna worry because i was gonna sort that out.

It could be the mixture or it could be that you have an air leak. Check that all the manifold and carb joints have gaskets without gaps and that all the fasteners are tight. Does your carb have a fixed or spring loaded needle? Early carbs with fixed needles have to have the jets centered and there is the possibility the carb is binding a bit at the moment until you "center the jet". Since you had the carb apart to fit the stage 1 needle, did you top up the oil in the carb dashpot?

the only thing i did to the car was disconnect it to the manifold. everything seems airtight so i'm guessing its the carb. a friend of mine did say it could be the mixture. my cars a 1990 rover mini. so i think the carb would be spring loaded.

so i just need to know what do to the carb now?

Mine was the same when I first had mine fitted but it went back to normal after about 30 mins of driving.

Did you fit the needle that comes with the kit, set up mixture and timing?

Defo sounds like the mixture. When you put on the stage one kit the air filter will draw more air in than the standard one, making the mixture weaker. If you've got a hiff carb the mixture screw is in the float. Located at the back of the carb on the left (as you look down on the carb, from the front) if you have a HS carb, the you'll have a nut at the bottom of the carb, turn clockwise to richen the mixture. You can do a test by using the choke. You should hear the air filter sucking in air at low revs. It's not a exact science but worked for me.

If you can get hold of an old "mini magazine". Get Jan 2012 for the HS carbs and Feb 2012 for the HiFF. They give you a breakdown and how to section.
