AAA, I started out with AAC but were too lean at top end if i recall. I may try AAU for a bit more at top end when i use it again.

i dont drive it in winter any way but the conclusion of this all is... i cant use twin hif4s on a chopped mg manifold because of the angle?

Twin HIF4's can be adapted to suit a mini. The big problem with them is the fact that they are so wide and it is hard to fit a linkage between the 2 throttle shafts. One way we have got round this is to shorten the dished nuts on the end of the throttle shaft as well as the bracket the return spring hooks onto, and use a heavily cut down linkage bar, but it only just fits and requires some fiddling around with to get right. The choke is easier to connect and the angle is a non issue.

Hi.
I ran a pair of twin H4's on my mk1 S for years, needles etc as per works cars. They had float chambers that were slightly too angled, perhaps from an MG.
Had no problems with them at all, obviously the fuel exits from the bottom of the chambers so the slightly greater angle appeared to make no difference anyway.

If memory serves me right, depending on how fast the engine / carbs draw fuel, you should be able to get away with H4's by dropping the float level a bit and running with an electric fuel pump and regulator. Only thing i can think would be a problem is possibly on cornering but a simple baffle tube in the bowl can help here.

I am interested in what mods Cooperman made to run his on a A series.

Well I didn't actually have to make any mods apart from a needle change and adjustment plus some further mods to the inlet manifold. My best buddy Bill Rogers, who incidentally was the first person ever to rally a red Mini with a white roof, got them in Los Angeles where he lives from a guy who has an MGA. Bill wanted them for his 1071 'S' rally-spec Cooper 'S' as a spare pair and did all the necessary work, then swapped them with me for a new cylinder head after he damaged his on a sprint when he missed a gear (or so he said!). Anyway, I sent the head out as cabin baggage with a guy who Bill knew and Bill sent me the carbs. which I fitted to my just built & prepped 1293 'S' rally car. I think Bill got the parts to mod them from Moss just outside LA, but I don't know and it was a long time ago.

hi guys just a quick question in general how much power can be ran on a set of twin hif38s,

I think the simplest answer is dont mess with 38's get a good condition pair of HS4's. Readily available, spares are easy to get, simple to set up at home with a finger and a piece of hose. and extremely reliable. They dont go "out of tune" as you often hear said. I think this comes from people who fit worn out ones and wonder why the engine flutters.

Nuff said, now where is my pipe, blanket and slippers.

G,night.

Well, my full race 1293 S never suffered from fuel starvation, it was fed with a facet silver top so from my experience no need to change the chambers, only the jets and needles springs etc...

I'm not going to reply to this thread any further as DILLIGAF seems to think he knows everything and the rest of us know nothing. He simply can't seem to read what was said by others and just wants to 'nit-pick' and be silly.

Ha ha, I will post a pic, the chambers are not Mini specific, the correct ones arr serial numbered something like 1115 and 1116 depending on them being left or right. When mine are on the car the float chambers are just off horizontal where the correct ones are horizontal. As I say, never had an issue even on the track....

In fact the numbers might even be 3495/96 for the Mini chambers!

Similar to my post on another thread. Key his user name into google and you will see what kind of person we are dealing with.
