surfblue seems to miss the point that a less expensive install correctly fitted can sound very good in a mini, so you don't need to spend alot of money to get a good system but if you do spend a reasonable amount of money you can get a very good system

rant over

actualy surfblue, I've found the biggest issue with audio in a mini when driving is lack of bass definition due to the engine/exhaust noise cancelling out a lot of the lower frequencies. So a decent subwoofer in the boot and all of a sudden my $800 system sounds like it's meant to, all because it needed some oomph to get the definition of the music back. without a decent bass/drum beat songs really do turn to mush, so I think it is worth it.

As to the OPs question, if you build a speaker board that sits on an angle, the bottom of the board is angled towards the front of the car slightly, it is quite straight forward to install 8" subwoofers. and they are subwoofers. not woofers. not 3 ways. real sub woofers. sure they wont go as low as a 10 or a 12 but there is always a compromise!

Hay there is nothing wrong with low budjet low install time systems, but what I will pull people up on is them posting pics for others looking for advice on the BEST way forward. You can do what you like how you like but please don't lead people with 'I did this' therefore you should to. And before you say that not what I did etc, then why did you post your pics?

And your rubbish about the acoustics in a mini, I don't think you are in a postion to make any statements about this. So please don't as you just make yourself sound silly and a bit of a keyboard warrior.

Lastly Sony were once a great car audio brand, then the marketing people took over and it all went Fast and Furious. It's a shame but a little bit of research would have told you Xplode is a brand to avoid... At any price.

I think you are the one making yourself look silly and a bit of a keyboard warrior.

I at no point suggested that what I have fitted to my car is the way foward, I was just showing what I had done as a suggestion, and then recieved a number of sarcastic comments from people who think they know better. If you like I could have a look at what you have done and make some negative sarcastic comments about what you have done is wrong becuse it doesn't fit with what I would do to my car, but I will not, as I don't think it helps to make negtiveand srcastic comments about peoples cars. It is upto the idividual to do what they like within the time and budget that they have and I was just showing what I have done as an option.

I think it would be better if you keep your negative comments to yourself.

if you think putting a decent system in a mini is a waste of time, may i suggest you first listen to a decent system fitted in a mini, then that way you will have some sort of basis for your opinion. Which i totally disagree with. Ah the beauty of free speech.

I base my opinion on the fact that my car produces a lot of noise when I am driving it, I've never measured the dB level, but some day I'll measure it with on of the one the sound meters I use for my work. Putting on any kind of music on whilst driving requires it to be at a volume that causes tinnitus, so, in my opinion, it pretty pointless having what is called a decent sound system.

You can see what I have done and blueturbomini has done, as we both have long build threads in the install sub forum... Fill your boots mate.

It's not like I've been doing this for 20 years, I mean what do I know!

And if you would like you can critique a few more of my installs go for it.

You do know the first thing you do with any decent sound system install is sound deaden the car?

Ignoring that fact the OP was asking about subwoofers and you posted pics of a fully range speaker install for a moment. Let's look at it this way.
This is a Techincal forum, advise HAS to be correct as people may well use it as the basis of purchasing kit and going down an install route.
This also leads on to equipment. If this was one of the engine tech forums, and someone had a build project and was using substandard parts, the experienced engine builders will flag it, otherwise what's the point of a 'help' forum.
It's the same for car audio.

We are not saying that what you have done will kill you or catch fire (you have used rubber gromits on those cable holes?), as your system is what you want. But it's wrong to show it as an example to others, I'm sorry it is.
Maybe if the threads was 'whats the cheapest and easiest way to get sound in my mini' it would have been relavent.

I personally hate lazy installs, but I know that they can meet some peoples criteria. But then to turn around with clearly very little understanding or experience and say 'highend audio in a mini is pointless' as an attempt to validate what you have personally done is a bit silly.

edit: Sorry for so many posts, I'm on mobile and it has 'oddness'.
