seen a few projects with 10's but always thought they would be a nightmare to drive wheel spinning and toping out at about 80 mph lol
any experiance or are 12,13's best for big power minis?
thanks joel,

This is an easy fix.

Fit a gearbox from a diesel Rover. You can even get one from a Freelander which would higher the gearing more still...

10's really aren't that different considering the aspect ratio of the tyre on a 10 when compared to 12's or 13's which tend to have a lower AR. All down to diff.

you sure, they have huge (compaired to a mini) wheels and to be any use off road I would have thought that they would be geared shorter. Plus there is teh 4x4 system in it that would make it interesting

If you keep the metro bearbox, then that is set up for 185/55/13's, so not a big % drop down to mini tyres.

PG1 means you can have a LSD and also I've ween a diesel 5th gear fitted to make for better cruising (Gazwads mini?). At the end of the day, the rolling radius of a 165/70/10 is basically the same as a 175/50/13 so the gearing isn't really effected between the 2

PG1 means you can have a LSD

lsd is available for both, just the pg1 had it in some rovers as standard, so easier to get a hold of

I had a 1.8 vauxhall in my mini for a while and ran standard skinny 12's . very bad grip because of tyres and uneven weight of engine.( all on the offside wheel) This made the inside wheel spin very easily and 1st gear was of no use. The vauxhall engine is very revvy so top speed is no real issue. Anything over 90 is terifying anddeafening at the best of times!!
On the plus side, the lack of grip makes it hard to break drive shafts and splines.

The PG1 gearbox is fitted to Rover 200 and 400 diesel cars. The petrol and diesel bell housings are different.

You can go over the top and fit a freelander box, which is also PG1 but after a discusion online, probably not the best of ideas.

The best comprimise box ive heard of is the C6 i think it is, or C4. The one fitted to the 1.8 non vvc in an mgf. same ratios as the pg1 but a lower final drive, meaning cruising is better and hopefully not over geared.

unless you want to make a frakenstein box of course :P

VVC with PG1 under a round nose is possbile :) im nearly there ;)
