Am gonna start postin up how my minis going along now...
So far have removed and sold the huge hif44 carb, and have removed the rc-40 system and manifold. Have fitted the carb, exhaust and manifold off my mayfair to it so its running again.
Have just rang for a quote to rebuild my gearbox and it sounded good and the guys said he had many mini parts in and has done many before so I'm getting the engine out on tuesday and then hopefully will split it and get the gearbox in to them asap.
Am just doing a few little bits of jobs for now so have started paint stripping all the blue paint on the gearstick and handbrake and have sprayed them black again. Have also had a go at paint stripping the master cylinders which were also attacked with the blue paint :D
I'll keep you posted....

Admitadely the seats look really good on that pic but they were too low for me and that pic was probably taken years ago as they were knackered and ripped when i got the car. My mayfair seats have now been fitted and are in good conditon and just need a good clean.....

It turned out that the idler gear beraing had gone in the gearbox and had smashed the bearing in the outer casing, compare the casing removed (on the right) to a good one (on the left)...

I'm hoping to just change the casings over as the actually casing is damaged on the one removed so its knackered. I have also just brought loads of mini bits in one lot on ebay, which includes a rebuilt engine and a later gearbox in good condition. I'm hoping to use the engine, the idler off the gearbox and the casing as previously shown and then should have a good engine at a cheap price.
All the bits included in the lot....

I now plan to remove the front subframe and paint it and all the components. I also hope to paint the engine bay and may replace the front end panels at the same time. Tommorows job is to take the gearbox in and then try and strip the engine down and then take the two engines to a local engine place so they can tell me whats what and do any necessary work.
I'll keep you posted...

roberts - don't live in stoke mate, i live in sandbach (near crewe) so its quite far away from mini mine but i think it the nearest mini place and they gave me a good price for rebuilding the box
Jordie - i presume they're standard mayfair seats but they may have been changed in the past. When i've finished the project i might get some seat covers for them just as a finishing touch
I've been cleaning the engine this morning and its come up really well. I'll post some pics later....

After my thread ranting about minispares i might start one now about how good mini mine are. They are not only doing my gearbox at a great price but are also fitting a centre oil pickup and hardened diff pin at the same time. They also apologised for not being able to get it dome by the weekend as they were too busy but said it should be done by next week  . I took both of my gearboxes in (one off the car and one that came with the engine in the ebay lot) and he said that he could use the idler gear of the other box and then use the casing that came with this box too so i should have saved meself loads already.
Also today have cleaned the face of the rebuilt block so its pretty much ready to fit (pic below), I have also started to strip my other engine and removed the manifold and head ready to fit onto the rebuilt block....
