riighhht

firstly.  this has got way way out of hand!!  il begin the story of woe, sadness, anger and just sheer dissapointment and then utter joy.  if my nerves will let me relive the ordeal !    its not that bad but.. whatever.

so. it worked and run for MITP. whooptiforkindoo. we fired it up and tried to run it in after but we were having major issues. it kept loosing oil pressure and it just wouldnt function. not properly. so out it came!

straight to rob selby it went. i realised that if i wanted to run reliably and not waste half my testing on getting the engine working and me having doubts about it, then there is no point doing it. go large or go home!!

we took it up there, had a good chat and all sounded promising!  left the engine with him and that was that.    the phone call a few weeks later made me a little sad though. EVERYTHING was fit for the bin.

whoever fitted the camshaft bearings had fitted the main oil feel bearing upsidown. which caused cair to get into the oil and when the engine was running, mostly bypass the cam feed and go straight up to the head.

so it was a 3 lap special when i built it ! lol, i trusted one person to hone and fit cam bearings and they screw it up.  CHEERS!

anyway. as we dug further we soon discovered that the block was very inferior and has had a hard life. it was also from an inline A series..  what the hell! oh well. i wondered why it was so different just didnt put 2 and 2 together!

so a new block has been commissioned. after even more umming and aahing at parts, sadly the con rods and pistons were also decommissioned due to suspicions rob had and just they're unknown.

so its having brand new billet selby rods and selby pistons, its for the best.  we know the engine will last me ages now, i can give it a hard time and it will hopefully beg for more! wahoo!

aaannndddd then another phone call.   bugger me..   cranks decommissioned . hahaha. the radii on the journals were just too small and the work that had been carried out on further inspection was a bit.. agricultural. so i have gone for one of his nice shiny new ones ;)  superfinished crankshafts are so so so damn cool!

oh one last thing, the gearbox was also deemed unfit for use ( by me this time!!) due to the amount of swarf and possibility of having selector teeth flying through a now very expensive engine due to having synchros.  so a good mate  has definitely gone above and beyond the call of duty and helped me out with his secondhand jack knight straight cut dog (!!) box for a brilliant price. we need more people like this in the world! although now the sod has got a favour in the bank..

i have no pictures of the engine as of yet, next journey up there i will get some of the awsomeness though!

so thats the engine......   phew!  now on to the car!!

shell

time for the geo-upgrades and clearance modifications.  the rear is all good, got a new set of AVO race dampers coming, and have started fitting a KAD rear anti roll bar. all fun and games back there!

the front has had a fair bit of work now though.

this is when it got out of hand. the dampers were not upright due to the std mounts. fine, time to cut some mounts about and get the dampers set up so at the correct ride height the damper is on half travel

plus preload. that got sorted easily.

the subframe recieved a healthy notch, and you can just see the top mounts on and sorted now.  just need some balljoint spacers to get the rollcentres sorted and then a few other bits of messing around

and we will have a mini handling like a dream.

but thats all taken time, lots of time! oh did i mention money? yeah. lots and lots and lots of that too.  dont go racing kids! do drugs. its cheaper.

but i cant show you all of the tricks can i? ;)   unfortunatly i will, they just havnt been done yet!.

I do have an excuse for my lack of being though! Us lads at team LEOS motorsport have.. wait for it..  UPGRADED!

we built a new workshop!  lots and lots of room, shiney walls and floors and nice racecars!  that red one is the car i run this season and we won the CSCC magnificent 7s championship!  Im No.1!!  winner:)

thats it, cheers folks!
