I bought a few tools from Harbor Freight that came in very handy during the gearbox replacement on my car. The first one was their movers dolly, the smallest one that is pretty cheap, that supports the engine perfectly and allows you to move it around your garage with very little effort. I also made a cover for it with their "tool box liner" so I could take the engine outside and clean it with the garden hose.

The next one is their Blind Hole Bearing Puller that I used to remove the idler gear bearing and bearing race for the input shaft. I did have to pull in a downward direction to make it work. So, I used a wooden frame cantilevered out from and clamped to a table. I pulled through the middle of the frame and they came out with 3 to 5 hits.

I have bought a couple things from them that have been useful. I got their 22" breaker bar which helped a lot in changing the brakes and ball joints.

I've also used their ball joint separator. I've heard that it's garbage in the long run but it worked for me

I have those two also and they have worked great. The ball joint separator fits where no others fit and I have other separators.

I have a racing jack (2 ton? Can't recall) I bought from them a few years ago that's still going strong after being left out in the rain, etc. Oops.

I also used their 3/4 ton load leveler to pull the engine with the engine crane and worked very well too. Luckily, some of the head studs were extra long and had extra nuts and washers for the air conditioner compressor. The nuts securing the head were not disturbed attaching the load leveler.

Bought loads of tools over the years from Harbor Freight. It's Mechanical Porn to a Petrolhead. For Minis one of my best buys is their LONG nosed Mole Grips, which are great for those awkward Clevis Pins in the Pedal Box area. Northern Tools also do a great range of Tools. For working on Jap Spec Minis where space is REALLY tight, their Universal Socket Set, part no.2543002 is invaluable.
