I finally managed to get the calipers painted up. I was originally considering black or red, but since those colours weren't available at the time, I got the silver paint on kit. I must say, the colour does look good in hand and I was able to put about 4 or 5 coats on, giving them good coverage and protection. Here they are :

I also did the master cylinders. The finish is also just as good, just one or two areas that need touching up and I'm good to go. Still need to fit the kits to them, but they do look a LOT better. Again, here they are :

After quite a while (thanks to studying and work), I finally managed to complete the calipers with new pistons, seal kits, bleed nipples, pipes and washers. They just need a touch up here and there with silver and then are ready to go. I realise they're silver and not black, but I don't think they look too bad. Here's a picture :

The master cylinders are now finally done, after a little difficulty, with new seals etc. and ready to be fitted when ready.

Only the back brakes to rebuild and the system to bled at some stage and she has brakes again.

I had this turn up today :

The 12G295 is quite a rarity in our little part of the world, so I'm happy to have this one.

Not much to report of late. Got a small package from my Minispares postman with oil seals and rear side window seals that I wasn't able to get before. Just waiting on wheelbearings though, the Timken suppliers didn't have stock to send here to Kokstad, should hopefully get those this week and finish up the front subframe etc with brakes. Then to spray the engine bay and finally get her back on four wheels again.

Thanks  :-) I won't be using a Mini heater tap, rather a take off from the head and using a Mk1 Golf heater valve.

Swapping over to Clubman window winding mechanisms, as the originals are incredibly stiff, even after a de- and re-grease. Hoping that these work now, the only difference is the actual drive, mine being the square the the Clubman the hexagonal shape.

Cleaned up the window mechanisms - what a mission.

Ready to be greased up and fitted. They seem to run smoother than the originals from the car. Just need the correct handles now.

Nice project, never knew such a vehicle existed! I used to have a mkI Hornet and love the idea of a standard saloon body with the Elf/Hornet front

Nice project, never knew such a vehicle existed! I used to have a mkI Hornet and love the idea of a standard saloon body with the Elf/Hornet front

South Africa certainly had some interesting things back in the day - the Elf/Hornet body with the saloon front end, like my car, and the saloon with Elf/Hornet front (extremely rare cars these) are just the start. There were performance Clubmans etc as well.

Finally have the doors complete. The Clubman mechanisms didn't seem to work well, pushing the window up at an angle, not matter what I did. So, two days of intense cleaning and degreasing were wasted on items that won't be used, but hey ho, at least they'll be ready at a later stage for other projects. I then reverted back to the original mechanisms from the car, found they had been placed on incorrect sides (previous owner at fault). This helped with the "up" movement, not having to force them anymore. With a proper clean and grease like with the other pair, they now work perfectly.
