no but we are back to modifying the monocoque resulting in the car needing to be re-registered and a IVA test

Q my mate down the pub, head in sand, bla bla bla

It only requires an IVA if an MOT man says its too far modified to be MOT'd under its current identity though right?

Which unless you take it to bungles MOT centre isn't going to happen.

no not a MOT problem, it's not something the MOT man will check

unless it's been done so badly that the car is now some how unsafe

So basically the only time your ever going to be forced to IVA your car is if your stopped by VOSA at the roadside and the VOSA guy happens to know exactly what a standard mini shell is supposed to be like and realises its modified slightly? Or you take your car to VOSA and point it out to them.

ERA turbo minis had bulkhead boxes as standard and were the most powerful mini made, so we know the bulkhead is safe with that sort of modification so why should it be a problem?

Something like a Z car where its effectively a mini shell dropped onto a spaceframe - Yeah, spam with IVA warnings all you want. But requiring an IVA for a weber or turbo bulkhead box - No chance.

God im bored with all this IVA chat.

Time for a poll as to who has suffered one as a result of a fully welded weber box fitted Vs the plate and 4 bolts on a standard mini???

I know your point is valid Bungle but please stop spamming every mod thread with the same link.

How are VOSA going to know you've modified the car from standard? How do they know what every inch of every cars monocoque is like as standard?

The centre of a standard mini bulkhead is a removable plate held in with putty and 4 screws. So by welding in a permanent piece of metal to the area, you could say your adding strength to this area.

It even says in that link that every case is judged uniquely on the evidence provided. How can they argue a mini is no longer recognisable as a mini because its had a box welded into its bulkhead?

Until we see minis being forced into IVA's over flipfronts and bulkhead boxes, its a load of rubbish.

We have 35000 members on this forum and obviously this isn't every mini owner and not everyone drives a mini with bulkhead mods/flipfronts but we've still never heard of a mini being forced into an IVA for these things. Your just guessing that's what will happen.

Taken from Bungles link

"What constitutes a monocoque is that of how an OEM manufacturer would view it. The chassis or `cage` assembly and all components that form it, less any cosmetic panels or infills that make no structural consideration to the monocoque or its component parts.
However, we must emphasis that this information is given for general guidance and each case will be judged on its merits.

Whilst none of this is definitive, and it contains the usual ‘Judged on it’s own merits’ criteria, it does answer a lot of questions where the modifier has only been able to speculate in the past."

you say this but we still have members that think they can do what they like to their car and still call it a mini and have never heard of the 8 points system that the DVLA made many years ago so we can still modify cars
