Pulled my car away from the car port today. and to my disbelief a massive puddle of oil. I topped the oil up yesterday because it was below the min line, and today it has near enough all gone!!

Not much point checkin it out today as nowhere is open for spares, so will take a look tomorrow. I have got a feeling it is the gear link seal, but it was only replaced about 3 months ago!! It definately ain't the drive shaft seals luckily.

If it is the gear link seal, shall i just put another seal in leaving the old one in there? or take it out and put new one in?

you can buy a kit from minispares thats like a repair kit, it has an alloy ring you put in first, this supports the selector rod, then you put the normal oil seal in, and then you put on a bellows, this stops dirt and grit damaging the oil seal.

this kit doesn't cost much, something like £3 i think.

If its a significant leak, replace it, but if your car drips oil every so often, don't kill yourself over it unless you have a show car. Just top up every so often, itll probably end up cheaper than trying to replace all the seals and so on. Most tiny oil leaks have no effect on the engine, so don't worry about them!

tis a baad leak!!

bought a new seal for it today. but is there any difference in the rod sizes throughout the A series engine? because on the packaging it says BLMC which could be a difference size to when rover run'd the scene.?.?.?.?.?.?.?

all rod change selector shafts are the same size, so that seal will be ok.
