I cant believe how good that shell is !! Roofless was a virtually brand new shell when I got it and it had a lot more corrosion damage than that.

This is going to be one awesome vee-hicle :P

Yeah, pretty crazy how good a shape it was in. the only other rust was on the battery box, but of course that came out with teh boot floor.

To keep the momentum up, I spent some time this evening rebuilding my axles with new CVs and Pot joints from Minispares.

So I'm trying something a bit different for a gauge kit / display for the little Mk1 - and I'd venture to guess I may just be the first one to do so. After considering my options and the complexity of them all, along with the VERY high price (at least on this side of the Atlantic) of stock clocks for the 2002 / 2003 R1s I decided to go with a AIM MyChron3 dash with one of their Kart Steering wheels (the Mini is a go kart after all, right?) as this setup will go quite well with my low and far back seating position in the car, keeping gauges close at hand / sight as well as match with the Curley switchpod dash, which does not have a proper location for gauges really.

The size of the wheel at 12.6 inches diameter (320 mm) is about what I wanted, and was the right price as they were on clearnace at AIM USA for a little more than the equivalent on 60 Pounds.

The Dash is great too, as not only is it a direct plug and play to the stock R1 harness, it has dual modes of operation - one for "street", with odometer, speed, RPM, Fuel Level, etc, but a "race" mode where you can log lap times at track days with the included beacon as well as set alarms for critical functions (oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, etc).

Both modes display gear position and have sequential shift lights- great stuff!

This is what the dash looks all lit up:

Got the Yokos mounted to the wheels this weekend - here's a sneaky peeky of how they will look with the centerlock hubs.

Here're some piccies of my radius arms and brakes going back together, KAD alloy arms, repro Superfins, recyled back plates, recycled hubs from my MK1 with new built in space Timkin roller bearings, genuine single leading shoes, recycled nuts and bolts for the backplates with new flat washers and split washer, new hardware on all the rest...and of course my Force Racing Ti cetner lock kit as shown earlier....

I used Eastwood for the Chassis Black / Rust Encapsulator / Rust Converter paint system for the backing plates and hubs, as well as for teh zinc plating of the handbrake cable backing brackets and actuator arms, having used one of their vibratory tumblers to help clean the parts prior to bringing elbow greae to bear to get the last bits of scale and rust off prior to plating or paint.
