Just out of interest, i have a valuation from hoopers engineers (a private valuers) from the insurance company but i would like to know how far out or close they are.

It is a 1996 1275 SPI rover sidewalk (limited edition of 1000) in factory diamond white (a rare colour as they're usually kingfisher blue or charcoal grey, don't quote me but i think they made 500 blue 350 grey and 150 white or something like that)

in the last 12 months its had just about everything grubby or old looking replaced. It had a nut and bolt resto about 5-6 years ago (prev owner).

I have replaced myself or had replaced by colourworks classic specialists,
all four swivel pins/ball joints
both front wheel bearings
seats repaired
fuel sender
K&N induction kit
lambda sensor
head lights
driver side window mechanism
both bottom arms
both track rod ends
both tie bars
rebushed subframes
both front wings
front panel
front bumper
4 new arches
water pump
full service (plugs, oil, filters etc)
fully wax oyled

all body work and paint was done proffetionally by colour works totalling 3200

I've also added,

Tims rev counter
Accuspark adjustable rev limiter (incase the Mrs finds my keys and took it for a spin lol)
Cigarette socket
handbrake sleeve
Hidden push button start (for security)
Ignition live isolator (for security)
2 front speakers (hidden)
silicone top hose
Blue HT leads
Red spark indicators
powerflex exhaust mounts
braided filter to block oil pipe

Chrome - rocker nuts, head nuts, dipstick, relay covers, coil cover, all coil bracketry, brake fluid reservoir cover, oil cap, bonnet stay, wiper arms and blades.

I've also painted the engine, throttle linkage, fuel lines (metal parts) radiator top, coil and plastic covers.
Oh and i've put new tyres on lol

Its cost me an absolute fortune and 12 months to get to this stage but worth every penny. as i said hoopers engineers have valued it but they can either be spot on or miles out, they're never close lol.

heres a couple of pics. (the engine pic is before i freshened up the red engine paint, its now bright red like the radiator top)

To add, everything added is removable to put back to standard.
The wheels are 6x12 starmags and it also has an alarm and immobiliser in addition to my extra added security features.
I've probably missed loads of stuff i've done but thats what i can remember at the min, plus theres still a few bits in the engine bay to polish/chrome/paint now she's off the road :)

I think you got an insurance valuation of about 3.5k, which I believe is about 1k more that it would sell for.

Nope, that's way way out. the owner of Colour works offered me 5k to buy it when he'd done the work. Maybe you need to see it in the flesh to get an acurate estimation. And I was offered more than that at normanby hall mini day. I don't think 3.5 is even close.

lucky you, I think 5k is very strong for a side walk, which is not in original condition.

What did "hoopers engineers" come back with ?

or are they like the 'valuers' on that so called classic car programme on channel 5 a while back ?

No they are insurance recognised valuers, they valued my last car which sold for almost spot on the money.

it can be put to standard in a day and I have all the parts to do so. They also said there is only 8 factory painted white sidewalks left on their system which I assume means taxed and tested. They took an hour and a half going over the car with a fine tooth comb externally, internally and on the underside.. It wasn't a quick 5 min glance.

Well don't reply then!! But to me that was an opinion not a valuation. Rough blue sidewalks have been selling for 2k+ so I don't see how 2.5k is a realistic valuation for mine. Nevermind I won't bother asking. People like you with that attitude ruin forums for people because you think your opinion over rules everything, even the documents and valuations of professional vehicle valuers apparently. Next time I won't bother!!!

I'll not bother then !!

But I do believe your mini looks nice, but I don't think it's worth what you think it is. A valuation for insurance should be about 50% higher than it's market value. That's my opinion, and that is what you asked for...

As you haven't divulged what the hoopers engineers report says I only have my experience and limited details you've provided above to go on. What is your aim for this topic ?

if I put the valuation all you get is I agree comments. People always assume its cowboy/made up valuation or valuers. I used hoopers because they value cars on market value not random numbers you pay them to write. I agree there could be more pictures but that's all I have, and the pictures represtent the work completed on the whole car and I've listed that almost everything is new or only a couple of years old. The market value of rough blue sidwalks is £2000+ as that's what they're selling for currently so imo £2500 is just a guess. Colourworks also value classics of all kind and I assume its worth more than £5000 as he wouldn't offer to buy it to make a loss.

Lovely car and a credit to you...but I'd of snapped the £5k offer up in a flash

At the end of the day its a Sidewalk which isnt as popular as a lot of the other more limited LE models

Guess-works was being honest with you...its a tough market right now

This forum is notorious for undervaluing things...
What a trader might pay is completely different to a stranger on the street, to get a best price be prepared to wait a while.

Its not for sale and like always I would sell at the right times to match the cars ie cabriolet in summer etc etc and never before Xmas. I was only trying to get a rough idea as a classic specialist offered 5k and he wouldn't buy it to make a loss so was curious to what the value would be as he wouldn't say what he would have sold it for. Again I was offered 5300 at normanby hall mini show so can't see how 2.5k is an accurate valuation. Plus hoopers (a respected vehicle valuation company) gave me a valuation slightly higher as a market value. I appreciate its not as limited as some of the other limited edition models but is still LE none the less, and in a rare colour from factory. An opinion and a valuation are very different, I wouldn't pay more than £200 for a metro but that doesn't mean that's all their worth. I'm not blinded by attachment either, I've ploughed a fortune into her and know I'll be making a loss if I sold her, Its not about making a profit but i know she's worth more than a 2.5k guess
