I guess the F number is a numerically higher number because its not clubman specific ? The same floor assemblys being used for all models, I'm not sure. I don't have the F number on my mid 71 clubman either due to bodged repairs but my FE number is FE088***. Its not a GT so not sure if that makes a difference with the FE numbers but it is an early clubman and has no holes in the inner wings for the large rubber grommets. I think they put those in in late 71-72.

This is fantastic! I'd love to do a restoration on something so original, unlike the bodgetastic, hugely un-original mess that I decided to tackle.

Early GTs are just awesome.  Watching with interest & good luck selling the bike and continuing the project.....and if you ever want to sell it can I call dibs? ;)

Hi,long time.... no post.....!
Well I have finally sold my old motorbikes and all sorts of other junk that was clogging up the garage so I now have the space and more importantly the funds to kickstart the rebuild off again !
Attached File  156.jpg   31.68K   38 downloadsAttached File  157.jpg   34.99K   27 downloadsAttached File  158.jpg   42.22K   21 downloadsAttached File  155.jpg   39.61K   26 downloads
And I can now see why the old gt was parked up in a shed over 30 years ago !
gearbox casing is wrecked and a replacement will hopefully be found, good news though is the rest of the engine is good and will get rebuilt.

Mine was caused (I think) from too much end play on the idler gear which allowed it to move, which knackered the bearing and then things started to break. A lot. Sound like Straight-Cut Drops for a bit... It only took out the idler gear and the transfer housing - the rest was fine, but I replaced the gearbox anyway...

When I split it there were bits of idler gear teeth at the bottom of the crankcase - you can see them in this pic!

the bearing on mine has completely disintergrated and worn the casing away, bits found everywhere !
