Today’s efforts was the remote, I should have taken some before photos, it really was in a state , an extended soaking in gunk and a good jet wash would not remove the dried oil and grease, I had to slice it off with a blade and scrape it before it was onto the bench grinder , worth the effort as it’s turned out so well . Just the gear knob to sand down and varnish to finish, I know it’s not the correct original but it was on the GT when I bought it and I kind of like it to be honest.

Great result! Try and get hold of some saddle soap, works wonders on leather!

Stripped the seat covers off So I could fit some new foam , drivers seat was very sagged , discovered a damaged squab on the back rest and that the foam had ripped across the rear on the seat base and also the springs for the base squab had worn away the seat frame so some welding repairs to do before they get reassembled , may as well get the frames powder coated while I’m at it !Attached File  36B30564-1132-4405-8F59-EF237039D1E6.jpeg   50.12K   0 downloadsAttached File  4C9FC1D6-7044-47E1-B8AE-AF160FBA9382.jpeg   50.67K   2 downloadsAttached File  1B590EE4-02D2-4795-9A8B-8CA35589B57C.jpeg   41.24K   2 downloadsAttached File  2437A5C2-3BD5-497C-A731-F48EC8AED464.jpeg   43.32K   1 downloadsAttached File  EBE3DE1F-2FF3-470F-A700-4A4CD258D5B4.jpeg   31.23K   0 downloads

Don't know if its of interest but some pics of my old car for you to see.
I would'nt have made the mods I did if I could do it again but I was much younger then and liked bolt on shiny bits and big wheels.
Hope you don't mind me posting on your thread Gareth.
attachicon.gif img060.jpgattachicon.gif img059.jpgattachicon.gif img058.jpg

Don't mind at all Ollie, cracking looking gt you had there ,all the tags are still on my car and you are correct with the D20D number on the slam panel,I will have a job removing the 'FE' tag off the N/side inner wing as it has been spot welded through the letters onto the wing, the drivers footwell also still has a tag in place, they will all go back during the rebuild.
SKOUGHI...original all the way is the plan, and it certainly is rusty :ohno:

Very interested in the fact that your car has a slam panel number, FE tag and also a drivers footwell tag. I don't seem to have a footwell tag in my 1972 GT. What style of number is it? It is similar to the slam panel number...eg D20D?

Regards

Sorry , not been here for a while, heres some pics of all original tags

I got my number plates from https://www.netplates.co.uk/. They are very affordable and good quality  :proud:
