I measured up for mx5 running gear a few years back oddly in a clubby estate as well, my thoughts were to build a tubular front subframe but use mini brakes keeping it looking as stock as possible, anyway houses and babies put paid to that!

Interesting project to keep an eye on

thankyou all for the comments, :proud:
yeah still have the floor if anyone whats it ;D
the mazda runs out of tax at the end of the month, but i'm not far off needing to get started with that.
i might be miles off, and look back at this and laugh!! but i want to have on the road this summer. it wont be finished (they never are) but i want it up and running this year. i'll be happy with that.

Great project!

Tell us (or me) about the MK3 Escort on the shelf in your garage please!

the escort is a 83 RS1600i, ive fitted 27 panels to that and the shell is all done.
it had an rs turbo engine when it was on the road, i'm not sure if i'll fit that again or something newer and turbo'd.
but for now its sat there waiting for it's time. the thing is i don't have room to do it at my garage, so it'll have to wait.

I was looking to do this as well! Similar idea to Wolfe regarding a tubular front frame or possible using the standard Mazda subframes and a shorter prop

Working in a Mazda dealership means we are offered rotten mx5's on an almost daily basis so it seemed a good idea to me
I look forward to seeing this progress, someone with your skills and patience should make a very good job of this

thanks.
i lifted it up on stands to start with, then propped it up higher, bolted a ply sheet the the bottom of it then got a couple of mates to give me a lift onto the shelf, then just pushed it into place, it is just a bare shell with the wheels just sat in place.

i spent all week making a frame to mount the clubman shell to so i could lift it up,
its only gonna be up there for a little while but i have no room to put it out of the way.
