We decided to go down early on the day before, to miss the rush off arriving on the day with everyone else. We arrived in a family group at about 4pm, to be told our caravan wasnt ready and to come back in a hour.

This went on for 4 hours, going back every hour, luckily we had friends staying in another caravan that was ready, and they allowed us to go to theirs for a cuppa etc.

Then finally we got the keys to our caravan hoping that ours we be close to our mates. Turns out there are two parts of the park seperated by a big camping field, the part by reception is lovely with nice caravans (where our friends one was), the other part was a total dump.

Guess where ours was!

We got to the caravan, and bear in mind there are 4 in my family, the wife and I and our two kids, at the time 11 and 14, the caravan was the dirtiest, crappy caravan I had ever seen, I doubt anyone had stayed in it for years, so god knows why they hadnt given us the keys before. There were holes smashed in the walls, various expletives written in black marker all over the walls, and the mattresses were as thin as fag papers. It smelt like someone had died in it and laid there for months.

By the time we got back to reception to say this was totally unacceptable, the staff we had been dealing with had gone home, and we were left with the night staff who didnt know what to do, who then miraculously found a caravan in the supposed fully booked nice end for us, right next to our mates one.

This totally ruined the first day, and put a damper on the rest of the trip for us and our mates. We went back to reception the next day to ask what they we going to do to compensate us for all the hassle, thinking if nothing else they would give us priority booking for the next year, and there answer was 'absolutely nothing, its a popular event and if you dont come back makes no odds to us, as other people will'.

I was absolutely astounded.

The runs and cruises were good, but the actual show on the sunday wasnt great, and trade was poor, so thought it will be a long time before I do that one again.

this isn't just a problem from last year it's always the same

the far end of the site is used for 18-30 type holiday where booze is more important than a bed or working shower, if you book late or don't ask where your going you get this end

the show is in the small carpark near the entrance, it's limited space keeps the show small, also Cornwall is a long way from all the big traders and you won't get them packing up a big van and driving down here when they can sell the same stuff by phone or on line with out the cost of driving down here

would you be happy to pay 10% more for your parts just to have the trader there ?

what the riviera run is, is a mini themed long weekend holiday, if you want a big show where you spend more time getting there than looking around go to any other mini show

if you want a long weekend away with your mini and mates do the rivi run

I thought it was common knowledge that smugglers and trevelgue are different, but connected camp sites... with the smugglers being a hole!

Starting to get the car ready for this now but can't decide whether to go down on Saturday with the run or not...I do love the run, but was a bit disappointed with how few minis met at the official start at Reading services - there used to be hundreds (OK slight exaggeration - but there used to be a lot)!!

Anyone from here starting from Reading?

I think I'll be going down to Reading to meet at the start. Anyone else heading down to meet at Reading from the East Midlands, I'll be leaving from Nottingham.

We're going down to the Reading meet too although we're further South than you.

Anyone else meeting at Reading and 'doing the run'?

well we arrived in london safe and sound. You even mannaged to put some nice welcoming weather for us yesterday. :shades: <p>I think we will go out today and try and do the tourist thing . Hopefully it isnt too hard to get around with the marathon happening. :proud: . my 2yr old daughter decided that we need to be awake now. so it looks like we have some extra time to plan our day.

The countdown to Riviera Run begins.....

I cant wait..hopefully the good weather stays around for it
