Hopefully Photobucket works
Few pics from over the last 6 months final tinkering with the bodywork and doors then the extremely time consuming sealing
Enjoy the pics
Holes all welded up
Happy with the door gaps
Cleaned off the rest of the sound deadening
Wasn't looking forward to this job but turned out ok in the end
Almost forgot this littl bit
Trial fit of the boot lid
I've still got the original one so will have both painted and choose the best fitting one after
always good to have a good spare boot lid
Splashed a coat of primer over the seam sealing it all helps
Last pic of the car in the garage it's called home for the last year or so
Then off she went to the body shop
That's me up to date 5 years of graft on the back of a truck
Glad all the welding scraping sealing is over it's been a slog couldn't have got this far without the help of my lad
Cheers Jay 🙂
Thanks for looking
Mark

Thanks BenWell done both of you. Looking great.

That means a lot coming from you 🙂
Can't believe it's taken 5 years to get to this point !!
Jays been busy restoring his MG ZS 180 so the mini hasn't seen the road yet but hopefully when mine comes back this will give him the motivation to get it on the road
How's your mini 25 coming on ?
Cheers Mark

Sounds good.
The 25 hasn't been worked on for 3 years now. It's sat outside under a tarp.
I restore classics for my job now so all of my time is spent doing that.
It will get done at some point though.
I have just acquired a MPI which will need to be restored first though

Ive had most of the stuff powder coated so thats going to make things a bit easier
Built up the pedal box bit fiddly holding it together while I put the centre pin in but got there in the end
Also made a start on the fresh air system gave it a good wash as it was filthy
Im blanking off the 2 face vents on this build as Ive got a walnut dash and will be fitting speakers in the hole ( well thats the plan )
Ive got the front hubs to do next but Ive thrown my back out so cant see me doing much this weekend
I am drawing up a rebuild schedule with details of what parts I will need and what order to fit them learnt my lesson building the lads mini nothing worse that removing parts due to fitting them in the wrong order
Im also trawling through all the parts Ive collected over the last 5 years and all the bits in boxes and tubs I need to make sure Ive got all the nuts bolts screws and what nots I need to put this thing back together
My plan is to get it weatherproof and rolling before winter sets in
Wish me luck

Thanks mate.
The MPi is going to be a full restoration back to original as it has been painted a terrible colour quite early on in its life.
Thread here if you haven't seen it http://www.theminifo...nd rusty mini
Not that anything has happened with it yet...

leaving the fuse box so the contacts are covered in some white vinegar would bring it back to like new, save buying a new fuse box.

Cheers
I’ll give it a go it’s £15 for a new fuse box so definitely worth the price of a bottle of vinegar

Nothing to report on the car yet so carried on with the mundane job of refurbing parts
Thought it was time to tackle the front hubs and drive shafts
Now silly me had took them off the car complete ages ago in hindsight I should have stripped them down on the car !!
This has made undoing the hub nut somewhat interesting 🙂 however some hours later they yielded to a big hammer and breaker bar
Few pics of before and after bit boring I know but it will be worth it in the end ( well thats what I keep telling myself )
Grubby hub
Next to the cleaned one
Put it through the parts washer then degreased it with panel wipe
Masked ready for zinc primer
Hub done, onto the driveshaft
Drive flange
Ive kept the bearings as I may reuse them
after a clean up they look ok but Ill examine them more closely as one of the races had some scratching
Same for the other side ( next week )
Ive run out of primer and also need satin black paint so Ill be ordering that ready for next week
I was going to have it all powder coated but Ive got to keep a lid on the budget Im into thousands already
If the other half knew shed kill me 🙂

I should mention that I used a twisted wire knot wheel after stripping them down
Then put them through the parts washer which removed all the grease
I wish it did all the hard work but I’m afraid it was me and a few hours graft
