Hi im currently lookin at a mini for sale, it is red in colour and has a little rust but is £1000 the paint its self is looking very dull and was wondering what could be done paint to get the shine back and due to a low budget i cant really afford a respray.

was gonna point you in that direction! you need to be careful though, if you flatt it/ polish it too hard then you'll end up in your undercoat and then you'll need a respray anyway!

If the paint is dull, dont flat it (sand paper) just use G3 compound with plenty water i.e. keeping the panel constantly wet.

You could do this by hand.

If you are going this by hand, then after G3 use Tcut (it is finer) and finish with wax.

should bring the panels up a treat :w00t:

thanks for the help on the paint but i dont want to sound like a complete dumb ass but what is 'G3 compound' is it a kind of wet and dry paper or more of a polish thanks Lee

G3 is a rubbing compound (paste) it's more abrasive than T-cut so it'll work much better on very dull paint... You need to apply it with a cloth and lots of water.
As Shaz said, use T-cut to finish and it'll look lovely and shiney again!

It won't need a polisher for that... doing it by hand would be the best way to stop yourself from rubbing through to primer.....


Be careful, you don't know how much paint is on your car, so only rub lightly to start with until the shine comes back!
