if all cooper mpi engines are the same why the different ecu numbers ?
reason for asking is mine had an idle problem, no codes stored and engine data is all good
i have a spare ecu/alarm box and fobs but but numbers are different
mine has mkc104291 and the spare has mkc104292
anyone ever tried this ?

I believe MKC104291 was an upgrade to MKC104290 which was fitted to only the first 3194 MPIs. All MPis after that had MKC104292. The Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor also changed from MHK100490 to MHK100600, which seems to be the only change. I cannot say for certain if changing the MAP sensor would allow you to use the later ECU.

^ Is correct. If you look up the MAP sensor on Rimmer Bros, or a similarly revised component, you'll see they show the end section of the VIN number - if your car is over/under that number you know which one to get.

Can the later MAP sensor be used to replace the MHK100490 which doesn't seem to be avilable anymore ?

Pete.
