if the items (such as tools) are already on offer then you will not get any discount.

Not always true, the Castrol 4 litre oil was £17.50 sale but with trade card was even cheaper! Craig, best bet is go in there with a card and ask for the prices!

I said to the guy behind the counter it is a bit of a pain in the ass having to go in and ask the discount when I can see EuroCar Parts prices online and they deliver next day. I doubt I will use the Halfords card for much more than cans of spray and light bulbs.

I have found them a bit variable, Tamworth branch NEVER lets you know the price without going through the whole 'what's your number' game but if I ring the Derby branch (on the wyvern estate) they will just tell you over the phone. So I tend to ring Derby then pick up in Tamworth.

We got £2.50 off the normal price. Went from £100.00 to £97.50.

That is very much my point. If I take time out of my day to go into a store rather than shop on-line and get it delivered then I want more than £2.50!
My nearest Halfords is 30 mins away so I won't be using mine much :(

Where as mine is closer than Euro-Car Parts, and I genuinely dislike EuroCarParts :P

I have a couple of services to do next month so I will give it one last try. That is unless Eurocarparts have a 50% off soon.

Euro Car Parts are only on the Charlie Brown round about so 2 mins from me. If they have a sale on I'll pop down there for the stuff for the Golfs Service.

Pretty much nothing,0% discount on mixed paint as well. Hammerite spray is about 20p off I think.

Its totally random as they don't have a set discount percentage, each item is discounted indervidually.

I bought a profesional range full mechanics set, should have been 250 and went through at 95. the black tool chest and cabinet should have been 600 and went through at 299, set of bulbs for 3.99 went through at 49p

on the other end of the scale i bought some polyflex exhaust rubbers and saved 20p so some times its worth it, some times its not.

what i will say though is the lifetime garuantee (sp) is spectacular. i regularly spent 2 weeks arguing with the snap-on rep over sockets, spanners, screw drivers etc yet when i cracked the ring on a halfords ratchet spanner, which i never hit with a hammer :shifty: , they never even argued or queried it, they just swapped it straight away with another.

snap-on is over priced and over rated in my 15 years experience as a mechanic and since halfors fetched out the advanced/pro range with a gurantee (sp) its as good as if not better than snap-on. unfortunatly they don't have a great range of advanced/pro stuff.

i'm slowly replacing all my damaged/broken snap-on tools with halfords stuff, its just far easier, better customer service and no quibble.

back on topic, if i remember correctly the guy at halfords said the biggest discount was on service/repair items and parts.

you can get trade at euro-part too if you 'ask for a better price' and say your self employed in the trade and not in the vat. you do have to use them quite regular though so they remember you, luckily they recognise me from the garage so when i go in/phone up on my days off they automatically give me trade. rear wheel bearing for a 2006 colt is 140+vat, trade is 80 all-in so deffo worth trying your luck
