    Starting My Mini Up

Hi there,

I've got a 52 plate Mini that I've owned for about 18mths. Just before Christmas my central locking suddenly starting sounding like it was struggling a little bit. I first noticed when pressing the button inside to unlock my passenger door, and it did it, but really slowly and sounded like an effort! When I got home, I was unable to use my fob to lock the car? I had to push the lock down on the passenger, and use the key on the driver door. When I press the button to unlock, the passenger door unlocks and the interior light comes on... (so I know it's not the battery) But the drivers door doesn't open, when I press again it doesn't lock, that's it! This mean I am unable to lock my boot! Because of this I have to remove the small fuse which locks the boot for me, this is obviously a hassle each time so I simply leave it out now.. meaning I am bootless!!

It is a real pain, and it's getting to that point where I need to get it sorted. My mechanic is happy to strip it down and do some testing, but this would obviously take time!! Is anyone familiar with this?

This forum is really for owners and restorers of the Classic mini rather than the BINI. There may be someone who can help, but it's not a certainty.

Bini? I like the post but does Bini stand for Big Mini?

I was driving on the A14 today and passed a new 'Mini Cooper 'S''. My goodness, it sure looked huge. It is as tall and wide as my BMW 3-series. How is that 'Mini' (which means 'of minimal size', one might presume). It is bigger than the old BMC 'Maxi'.
Nothing wrong with it as a car, of course, but the name is a bit incongruous.

To me it sounds like the mechanism inside the door is jamming up. May be due to corrosion from water ingress.

Your best bet is to try looking at

Central locking solenoid on the door by the sound of it.
