Hi all,

I thought i'd start a project topic as im going to be doing a few bits and bobs to my mini to get it back on the road.
It has been sat in my garage for almost a year now as i've been at uni not being able to get at it.

Heres a few pics of its current state:

So the plan is to lean to weld good enough to but weld a nice bit of metal to the floors (good job im not in a rush!) Fit my new manilflow lcb, give it a good service then off to the mot station!

After that, my next thing is to soundproof heavily the car as it is just too loud. Ive found a good substitute to dynamat at NoiseStop Systems which is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Im going to use the polidamp 5 material to reduce the panels vibrating then im going to use 1/2 thick open cell foam glued to 5kg/m2 rubber to isolate the floor. Its going to be heavy, but it will do the trick. I should be able to take it out for track days e.t.c.

Theres the start!

Im keeping it the same, its my favorite mini colour.

A mate of mine resprayed it last year for me after I did the prep work on it. He showed me what to do. It was only a tidyup, so im sure the rust will be back in a few years!
Eventually I want to strip it to a bare shell and replace all the bad bits, which there are many.

Thanks bungle, although I kinda like the single colour! Its a bit different to the cooper look.
I used to have colour coded group 2 arches but I got rid of them last year when I got my little minilites.
i think red and black is a really nice combination, yum! ;D

That looks very neat pooky, nice one! I hope to have something similar once im done.

Unfortunately, it looks like im going to have to wait until ive finished this 'diploma' thing in june. I dont think my neighbours in portsmouth would take kindly to me welding my mini in the street!

Hi everyone,

I thought I would do a bit of an update on my mini at the mo.
I have pulled the old girl out of the garage and started attacking the nasty holes in the floor. I have also been practacing my welding. Although I need a tad more practice untill I attack the mini!

Heres a few pics:

Thanks miniboo, that is a good point!

Ive been using low medium for those welds, but I think I need to go a bit slower as the penitration is not that good yet!

make sure when your welding it sounds like bacon crackerling and remember tack it up first as the thinn sheet will distort if you simply weld in a line with out a series of tacks first.

Only when your happy with the bit your welding should you compleately weld up.If its not right all you have to do is grind off teh few tacks as appose to the whole weld!!!

Hope this helps
