Ho much would you value it to sell for?

I'd never sell it. But if my life depended on it £15k

I appreciate it's never going of worth the sum of its parts. But not nearly half the cost. Otherwise whats the point of insurance?

From an insurers perspective, if we over value a car - we leave ourselves wide open to fraudulent claims.

What is considered over value, if I have alist of mods, prices, receipts and pictures?

BMC do recognised agreed valuations for insurance;

http://www.britishmi...ices/valuations

can't think of any apart from a works cooper

zcars mini
early original cooper s
1959 minis
any of the different body shelled mini's

i wouldnt sell mine for less that £15k (certaintly couldnt have one built to the same spec for less! try £20k)
and even if i got offered that in cash i wouldnt take it up

alot of modified or restored/ original mini's have a HUGEE sentimental value over anything else
its like selling/losing a family member..

If you overvalue your car against a reasonable replacement value then no one will insure you.
It is irrelevant what you have spent, If you shop around you may be able to get a new for old type policy but it will cost you.

do z cars minis sell for 15k + ? i know you spend that sort of amount building one but second hand i have never seen one that amount

a early original cooper s isn't modified as are most 59 minis worth over 15k

sentimental value doesn't have a monterey value to insurers all they look at is the cost of buying a similar spec car

hard to value, for example the z cars on an 09 reg
their isnt another one!
wonder what roofless would get for his r1 mini cabrio
only ones for sale at the moment are £7k+ and thats without the r1 conversion etc.

i know what your saying about the average modified city's and mayfairs though
agreed modification insurance from most company's is difficult as most insurers will replace with OEM equivalent in the T&C's

I've just had to do the Insurance on Project 45.

I used to be with Adrian Flux but again trying to get an agreed valuation with them was a pain in the arse.

My dad has his classic cars and bikes with Richard Hoskins so I thought I'd give them a shout.

So glad I did! The least hassle I've ever had with any insurance company and that includes dealing with the stupid amount of mods on the car! Also dealing with the agreed valuation was very straight forward.

They also do salvage retention.

Definitely worth a shout! :-)

Just be aware that in order to qualify for agreed valuation cover with RH classic, the vehicle actually has to be garaged. Something they don't tend to advise you about until you have been all the way through the quotation process. On the up side though, if you also have a modern car as a daily, then they also do a classic car multi car policy, that allows to add your modern car on the policy as well.

ill give them a shout then sounds good
just wondering if they can beat the adrian flux/ "flux direct" quote
which seemed to have substantially undercut all other insurers!!

I didn't find RH classic to be very competitive at all, in fact they were the most expensive specialist insurer I tired (HIC, Footman James, Adrian Flux and Peter James were all significantly cheaper). But then the lowest premium isn't always the best one, especially if you're insuring a highly modified/ high value model. RH certainly seem quite thorough and to understand classic cars. So if I were looking to insure something quite valuable, then I'd certainly consider paying the extra to go with them.

For me RH was one of the best prices along with being the best policy. My mini is my second car, it's garaged and on restricted mileage being only a weekend warrior so this def. helps!

I think the best thing is always phone around for the best deal. It certainly does no harm and everybodys vehicle and circumstances are different.
