If you use a digital ohm meter you can check the resistance value. It is only a curly wire on ceramic heat sink.
At a guess I,d say 1.5 ohms, to reduce the voltage to the motor to around 8 volts.

Have you checked the resistor. Maybe connection to it is broken. They can be soldered and made to work again.

Thank you for that advice. It is still in the car at the moment, but I will get it out and have a look.

I thought the switch was gone, so put a new one in and no joy.
So hopfully can get a resistor as that is the only thing i can think of now
