Looking back to your original post, you started having these problems after a gearbox rebuild, the flywheel has a reluctor ring on it with poles, the crank sensor is pointed at this ring and this is where the sensor gets engine speed from in order to initiate ignition.
This area has got to be the next area to look at.

I can't really get a code reader, I'm in North America. The ones I've seen are a bit expensive.

Looks like I'm going to have to get another vehicle for now.

I wanted to run this engine until it could no longer, but perhaps another rather expensive option is a Honda conversion.

Hmm, interesting. I can work with that, but what would I be looking for? I can possibly try another known working crank sensor.

make sure that the sensor is in position, that the loom and connections are good. After that you could try another Working sensor. After that I would be inclined to make sure the flywheel assembly was correctly assembled.

Just tried the sensor from teh working SPI. MPI now runs.

Now, off to buy a sensor.

Awesome yes, however I'll be waiting a while for the part. On the plus side I have some spares now.

Got him back on his feet yesterday. Drove around, no major problems, drives and shifts like butter now! Thanks to jehduh01 for all the help with the first and second rebuild, would have taken a lot longer without him.

Now a few more fixes and onto more fun projects! On the list, new shoes!
