Having trouble mounting the cable support bracket inside the door just below the lock. The template provided in their kit shows where I need to drill the hole but there's the small issue on an impact bar in the way so I can't mount it there. Both minimag tutorial and instructions look like they're fitting on a non impact bar door (just my luck)

I've left a message and emailed A Series Spares but no response yet. Anyone successfully managed this?

Thanks

Thanks Tom. Unfortunately it's help with fitting the specific A series kit I need help with. I've just had a call from A Series and they've requested some photos so hopefully my week off won't be lost!

Never fitted the A-series kit, but I can recommend the one by mini spares (MSSK2004).  I fitted this to my MPi several years ago and it worked brilliantly - I didn't have any problems with the impact bars getting in the way.

The Rover alarm is the same as they fitted to all other Rovers at the time, so already has outputs to drive a central locking mechanism.  If you buy the extra conversion kit (MSSK2006), the mini spares one works remotely off the Rover key fob.

How do the wires go from the body to the door...? I assume just under the door catch? Is the tube from car to door weatherproof?

You have to drill a new hole in the door between the hinges and a corresponding one to thread the cable under the dash.  The kit I had then came with a rubber grommet to protect the door, and the cable was pretty well insulated.  I may have put some extra tape on mine just to be on the safe side, but I never had a problem with the electrics (it's been in for over 7 years now).  I was always concerned that the mechanism was quite delicate, but it's survived the vibration of thousands of miles without a hitch.

Hey Tom, How did you get on with fitting this central locking kit to your MPI? I'm planning to buy a kit from A-Series Spares soon for my MPI.

J-gerbes I’ve got central locking and it’s all pretty easy apart from drilling the hole from the door to the door surround to run the wiring, either take the doors off or use the drill at a dangerous angle and say a few prayers

I chose the second option and It is functional, for a show car i would take the doors off.

Thanks for this advice. I ended up taking the doors off as I didn’t trust myself enough to drill it with them on.

I’m having a similar issue with mounting the small bracket that goes onto the locking mechanism as the side impact bar is in the way. Two wire pieces were also provided with the kit, I imagine these may be for the MPI? Any advice would be very much appreciated

Did either of you chaps get an answer to the MPi door problem? I did order the A-Series kit, but never received it and know with them having gone under, there is no one to call if I manage to get a second hand kit and have issues.
