And trim the inlet manifold ears so it can be slotted in from above, over partially inserted screws. I use cap heads as I find long hex drive keys with a 3/8” drive easier then getting sockets and spanners in.

Hi Graeme can you explain what you mean by trimming the manifold ears please, also have you got a fix for the difference in inlet manifold and exhaust manifold ears for washers as there is a thickness difference(im using a maniflow LCB and Minispares hif 44 inlet)

Cheers in advance

WHO HAS THE ACTUAL ANSWER TO THIS THREAD !!!!! FOR GOD SAKES

"Officially" - see below.

"Unofficially" - any of those methods shown or at the end of my post here

Well just been having a read Mini Workshop Manual (A BMC Service Publication) thats the red A4 folder with the black writing Page A.10 "The Engine" section A.13 Engine and Transmission (Removing) and I quote "3) Fit lifting eyes to the second and fourth cylinder head studs at the front of the engine" un quote.

I'm not sure what workshop manual that was from, but this is from the Factory Workshop Manual

While that's the factory recommendation, this is how I've been doing them for nearly 40 years

Cheers Nicklouse I did comment in that post,  by I chance came across this thread and ordered some bolts as per Coopermans suggestion but was still interested in the trimming of the manifold ears and a solution to the thickness issue. My thoughts were to reduce the inlet manifold flanges to suit instead of the washers ??

Thanks again for your input much appreciated

Just to add to the confusion surrounding the "official" way, here are some photos of my Workshop manual:

Isn't consistency a wonderful thing?

Bhahahaha,,,,, admittedly, I took that from a later manual than that one (1976 edition), however, I do have that same Red one you have (which appears to be 1st or 2nd edition), and I have a Blue cover version, which is also AKD4935 - 5th edition, and they show using that monstrosity bracket in that one for the Manual and Auto Engines.

I can't say why they had a change, maybe these lifting monstrosities weren't selling ? Though more seriously, they tended to change these procedures following an issue that occurred somewhere.
