Please don't start about what the moderators do, they have job and they do, a similar thing happened on the KTM forum and it just created arguments, which we don't want on here.

the KTMforum went pap because of one self obsessed mod, who let his "powers" go to his head (by the way who was you on there) ?

The same as on here, I take it your on there?

I was back in the day, when it was fun, but it got over modded (and too nice,ie couldnt have a dig or a laugh with other members) altho i knew a lot of them face to face
And threads getting deleated an no reason or notification given.

I was Toddy on there

Arrrrrr ;D

Oh fair enough do you still have KTM?

Na sold it last year, got a R6 now, but miss my 525exc (moto)

Oh fair enough

My friend set up a spider group on facebook a few months ago as he was sick of rules and fallouts on other groups. His group from the outset was just a forum for like minded people to chat and share conversation with no rules. A few short months later hes now got more members than any other group and no fallouts. Lesson to be learnt me thinks.

Been there done that, got the t-shirt.

I actually was part of a group who did just that very thing a few years ago.

We set up a forum to compete with TMF, less rules, allowed swearing, adult sections, hell we even had a Bini section.

Chucked a lot of time and money at it, got promoted in the mags, went to all the shows.

The fact that I'm here should hint at the fact that it died a painful death, i nearly got banned from TMF at the time because of it.

Its really not easy to get things like this off the ground and its certainly not a case of 'if you build it they will come' either.

It takes quite a bit of time to keep places like TMF going and threads like this spoil it for everyone.

I wonder why you think threads like this "spoil it for everyone"? Unless concerns are raised and discussed, how can anything be changed. We all want change for the better don't we?

Some people are too precious and like to be in control, ie stop you from saying what you want. There is plenty of free "adult" stuff on the net that is far more interesting than the odd swear word to kids.

Thankfully there are forums on the net that have no rules. Unfortunatly for us, we agreed to the rules on this forum when we signed up........

Change is not always for the better, we have thousands and thousands of happy members who are perfectly happy with things how they are.. All the TMF rules have evolved over the many years we've been around(this is our 10th year).

Our concern is that you posted up an image with swearing that was unsuitable, you've been around long enough to know that it was unsuitable and still decided to carry on with it.

The matter was dealt with via pms and you've chosen to bring it out here( for reasons best known to yourself).

I really don't see that theres any more to be said and I'm going to close this.

well if the forum is so bad, please leave.
im sick of wasting my time reading topics like this. your way or no way. simples find another or or make a forum yourself.

im really in half mind just to close the forum and have done with it! 10 years, maybe your right we are all rubbish at what we have done and do, and now its time to throw the towel in, then nothing to moan about, and everyone is happy. Just think about what your saying before you say it! most of it is a joke whats been posted in here and im disgusted to think you will always have something to moan about no matter how things are.
Topic closed while i have a think about this.

Would you like some warning points?

The forum has had a warning system for years, get enough points and you get banned. It's just that admin have decided now to let everyone see how many points they have. The system has been updated, there are lots of threads about this in the forum feedback section.

As already stated this is the current warning system that is now in place.

Warning System

All TMF users have a personal warning bar under their avatar. Moderators and Administrators are able to warn members who break the rules and issue the penalty associated with that rule.

The penalties are as follows:

  • Warning Level 1 - 1 day posting ban (minimum)
  • Warning Level 2 - 2-7 day posting ban (at the moderators discretion)
  • Warning Level 3 - indefinite ban

E.g. - if Joe receives one warning for spamming a thread he will receive a 1 day ban. If he comes back a week later and receives 2 further warnings (therefore increasing his warn level to 3), he will be banned indefinitely.

I thought we were suppose to be having 5 warning levels, along with an appeals procedure, which.... Still hasnt been enforced.

Actually the above is out of date.

The new levels are as follows:

  • 3 - 1 day posting ban.
  • 4 - 7 day posting ban.
  • 5 - Permanent posting pan.
The rules will be updated when these are finalised.

Don't panic though, the idea behind the changes is that people get two slaps on the wrist before anything actually happens to them. In addition, depending on the reason you were warned, the points are removed after so many days.

For example, spamming results in a point increment of 1, this point will be removed after 30 days.

This is the latest procedure being implemented by Deathrow. The rules will be updated to show this.

So are you proposing we have absolutely no rules?

we have no rules on our forum and have no issues what so ever. ;D

However, different strokes for different folks.....

It's a scale thing too, the more members you have the more likely someone will do something to upset others.

I have no rules on my forum either, but I set it up myself, rather than signing up to someone else's already existing forum that already had rules in place. There are some forums I use where I swear like a trooper and post absolute filth too, but I would never, ever expect to do it on here, out of respect to the owners of the forum and the guys that set it up. As Adam says, it's a scale thing. A small minnow of a forum like mine doesn't have any problems on it, it's a very specific forum and I don't have to do any moderating other than if people ask for stuff to be moved or deleted.

The forum is a good place sometimes.....

For info its good and there are threads back to 2005 that still help me out with some jobs

But I have to agree with people above i.e. samsfern, scallywag etc... that it does seem incredibly childish that we have a school like system, actually I think this TMF system is more complex than my school one!

Why is it needed exactly? Any specific examples from really really bad forum members? (I am not starting an argument, a debate is good)

The glanza forum and retrorides dont have rules like ours and they seem a better place to have a laugh and browse... On most topics now on TMF there is an argument of some sort because some people cant let their ego's lie below their dignity

Maybe this relates to the saying ''Strict parents lead to naughty children''....

TMF is a good place, as i said at the start, to look for info and parts for sale.... but now anyway it seems that people just like to jump on a topic to have a go at someone else

It also intrigues me that when someone is getting ganged up on (it's happened to me on one thread) that nothing gets done.. yet when that person retaliates with bad language or says something that one particular person doesnt like it gets blown out of proportion... everyone jumping on the bang wagon really pisses me off, cant anyone stand on their own two feet anymore?

Sorry for the rant but I would love the forum to be like a 'classic mini pub' where you meet your mates and then ignore the people who dont float your boat, with little or no rules
