So are you proposing we have absolutely no rules?

we have no rules on our forum and have no issues what so ever. ;D

I have no rules on my forum either, but I set it up myself, rather than signing up to someone else's already existing forum that already had rules in place. There are some forums I use where I swear like a trooper and post absolute filth too, but I would never, ever expect to do it on here, out of respect to the owners of the forum and the guys that set it up. As Adam says, it's a scale thing. A small minnow of a forum like mine doesn't have any problems on it, it's a very specific forum and I don't have to do any moderating other than if people ask for stuff to be moved or deleted.

Same here, I set our club up with friends as we were fed up with certain rules/apsects ect. It works well with the few hundred members have. Also have to agree about agreeing to the rules out of respect, irrespective of my personal veiw of the rules.

It can be difficult for us where to step in and where not to. If somebody reports an issue then one of us will step in to address the problem hopefully to everyones satisfaction.

The one thing here though is everybody signs for saying they have read and understood the rules. Now if you choose to flaunt those on a continuous basis then there will be a warning whether verbal or a warning point. If it gets out of hand as it has done on the odd occasion then it moves onto the admin staff to deal with.

As you say not everybody agrees with the rules but if you feel they are harsh then you have the option not to join the forum or participate. This not directed at anybody in particular by the way.

Several of the other forums i'm a member of allow swearing to a degree but then they have specific areas where that is allowed and only if you are above a certain age or have enough posts.

Due to the age range on here the rules were brought in to cover that area from a language point of view. I have to curb my tongue and watch what i say certainly from a swearing point of view ( i get called tourettes at work but then we all swear to a certain extent) so it can be difficult at times.

And because we cannot cover all of the threads all of the time we do miss sections where members may be berating each other whether sarcastically or otherwise.

For us we are damned if we do or damned if we don't.

Think I'd best stop posting now... one away from a permanent ban, all deserved though I can't argue that! :P

I'll linger, so long guys :P

:P I think so too. Well it's a shame that most of the enjoyable best things in life come from irrelevance, not on topic serious stuff... I think it's the same in a forum.

I understand and respect my warnings, whether or not I can stop myself from getting banned is another issue, off topic comments is something that I can't really help myself with ^_^

If you have an opportunity to make somebody laugh or smile I think you should take it, it's one the cheapest kinds of happiness :-)

You're not one away from a permanent ban at all.

Post garbage in the Problems, Questions and Technical section and expect to get warning points, it isn't a section for larking around.

Actually the above is out of date.

The new levels are as follows:

  • 3 - 1 day posting ban.
  • 4 - 7 day posting ban.
  • 5 - Permanent posting pan.
The rules will be updated when these are finalised.

Don't panic though, the idea behind the changes is that people get two slaps on the wrist before anything actually happens to them. In addition, depending on the reason you were warned, the points are removed after so many days.

For example, spamming results in a point increment of 1, this point will be removed after 30 days.

Ignore the "pan", the pan is a lie :-).

^^^ That's me saying sweet, no spam here. That'd be ironic, which isn't allowed on TMF.

I have to work out if the 'like' to 'warning' ratio is worth it when posting something ridiculous in a serious area now

i will forgive you for being new around here and not realising the rules have changed many times in the history of TMF

we might of all signed to say we under stand the rules but the likes of me signed up to different rules to you, a new member will also signed up to different set of rules to you

in the olden days when the forum was black and white, the guide was if it was ok for the simpsons (shown at 6pm) then it was ok for TMF

since then the rules have got bigger, is it worth a resigning when rules do changes so there is no excuse not to know them ?
