dealing with rust

is it best to remove all the rust, to take it down to bare metal? use kurust?
whats the best way?

depends how bad the rust is. Either way your best bet is to go back to bare metal, then use "POR15 metal ready" to treat the rust. Sand, clean, primer and paint and all will be as well as it can be. If it's bad though, you'll need to get the welding torch out.

Knotted wire brush on an angle grinder works a treat - will get back to good metal in no time. They're about a tenner from Halfords (for 115mm dia. grinder)

Obvious statement but its best to get rid of rust all together if you can, to avoid the possiblity of it recurring.

I got one of them last night.. they are actually really good.

Also I use Fertan I believe its called...

its supposed to turn rust into metal... smells just like coke to me haha... no it really does!

Im sure its just flat coke lol... but it defo seems to get the rust of easier...but I only use Fertan if I cant get to it.. and even then usually I just cut it out and replace.
