Rolls Royce Mini seen on Mk1 Forum, RR Mini front ends were one of Brian Luff's creations in the 1970's.......until Rolls Royce objected to the use of their grille, etc.
(Brian Luff was chief engineer at Lotus in the 1960's and produced the Status Minipower kit car)

Many years later BMW now owners of both Rolls Royce and MINI combined the two marques again but officially!

Strictly speaking BMW does not own Rolls Royce. RR is a British aero engine manufacturer which has licensed the marque to BMW to make cars. Rolls Royce have always been precious about their brand. Years ago someone created a massive car using a RR Merlin aero engine and put a RR grille on front. They were not amused. I like the 70s RR Mini.

technically the engine fitted to 'the beast' was a Rolls Royce designed meteor engine, the detuned merlin engine designed to be fitted to tanks. they where mostly built by Rover under licence. its impossible to use a merlin in road applications as the cranks are different as they have all the reductions drives etc on the front for the propellers and nothing at the rear to drive a gearbox

Rolls Royce motor company, and Rolls Royce plc are two seperate entitys, as they split in 1973 something to do with the RB211 costing waayyyy to much to develop and being nationalised
:)

You are perfectly correct. The car business was sold to Vickers. The marque, however, belongs to the aero engine company.
