Here's George, the 998 mini that my eldest will be learning to drive in when he's 17 in November (it's important to give your kids the best start in life!).

He'll be sitting alongside the complete restoration my 15 year old is doing, and the race car.

His MOT ran out a few days after we bought him, but a few test drives confirmed he runs and handles really well.

The ATS 10" alloys have been sold, as the front disks will be robbed for the project car (hence the steel Wellers off the race car), and the interior has been stripped to reveal a few patches that need welding prior to the MOT. Electronic ignition also fitted, and he's had an oil change.

He'll be back on the road in a few weeks, with some miilites or supalites, Should be ready for L2B, then a trip to the Nurburgring (well I'e got to sort out any niggles before I let him loose on the young driver!!)

After that there's not much else to do apart from a few little jobs like touch up paint (he's been keyed), new carpets and grille, and the CB radio for the convoys.

Car looks good mine! Think white wheels would look good on it! I look forward to seeing it.

A day on Sunday tackling the welding went well, albeit it's not finished, then a few checks and parts (track rod ends etc) should have George ready for the MOT.

Meanwhile I've been shotblasting and painting some minilites!

After a day of work on Saturday George now has one side all welded up (replaced the outer sill, amongst other things) and all seam welded, seam sealered and lashings of industrial red oxide applied then 3 layers of shultz on the outside.

 

Just the other side to tackle, then a few odd jobs for the MOT. Got to be ready for L2B !!

Salvaged a mint bonnet and grille off another car; time to get sanding and painting the bonnet.

 

a quick trial fit makes the front end alot smarter!

 

Doing the same with a tidy boot.

 

More welding tomorrow, and we'll be getting closer towards getting an MOT; not long until L2B now!

Welding finished!!

 

Loads more lashings of industrial red oxide applied, and 2 coats of black shultz on the underside.

 

Will chuck in carpets tonight and seat belts, leaving lower front tie bar bushes and track rod ends for the MOT; hope to get that done on Saturday afternoon, then can get the carpet back out and paint the inside.

 

Also put one of the freshly painted white wheels on; looks rather good I think.
