Thought I'd keep the thread together.

Since posting this a few weeks ago it's given me the boost to get on with things.

So far the major change is the stripes are off!! I did it with a rattle can which probably wasn't the best idea, it left me with a very obvious line between new paint and old, but luckily I still had my belts from ages ago and put them over the lines (cheating I know) and now you'd never know! The belts cost £1 from the car boot and are just your normal round the rousers belts.....bit cheaper than the kit you can buy!!

Other big change is my new wheels :) 10" Cooper S replicas, they will be going on hopefully today when my 7.5 brake kit arrives! The arches will be coming off and a nice chrome trim will go around the edge.

I stuck one on over the brakes today just to see what it will look like

I'm much happier with it now, the boring fake cooper look is going and the older rally look is on its way. I have also removed quite a few stickers like people suggested. The 65 will always stay on the car as it is a very important number for me.

What do people reckon?

Really liking the changes you have made.

I like stickers too but the wife doesn't and sure it can quickly make a car look bad. So do what I've done, get your bonnet off, give it a really good prep on the underside and maybe some paint from a rattle can. Then use that as your sticker place. It scratches my itch for stickers ;-)  (I've also seen the inside of the bootlid used for the same).

I do like those wheels, please post more pictures when you have the new brakes and wheels on.

Only thing I would suggest is to get rid of the four small spots and get a set of 2up/2down brackets and fit four big Cibies or even Ring Rally Giants. That would toughen/rally up the front of the car no end. E.g.

Haha I've obviously got the same idea, the inside of the boot lid is full already of old stickers that have come off the car and ones that never made it to the bodywork :P

I like those spots! Never really thought of the 2 up 2 down idea, I have a pair of Raydyots in the garage that I could use for something.

:-)

If you are not sure about lighting, mock it up. I got some cheapo ally strips from B&Q and bodged up some brackets to my own design using a hacksaw, drill and pop rivets. Then make tin foil lights out of card and, er, tin foil and balance and tape the whole lot to the car. That way you can see kind of what it looks like before spending money on brackets/lights and then deciding you don't like it. (Wish I still had the photo, it was on my old phone).

I'm defo doing it to our car, even have a local chap standing by to make the brackets just as soon as we get ours (below) through it's MoT.

Cheers

Ian

like the new look!

Something to think about is that the leather straps will rub the paint! I also have them fitted and particularly under the buckle they hah rubbed though the paint.

too late for me but maybe you should think about adding some softer material under the buckle. I dont plan on removing mine  :goaway:.

I was at a car show this week, while i was driving out a guy literally ran towards the car and asked if he could buy the straps. I was flattered at first until he said my trousers keep falling down  :mmkay:

Thats a handy tip :) I will put some material under the buckles, although the paint under them is pretty awful anyway but it's probably worth saving what is there.

I might try attaching the spots in different ways just to see what looks good then get a bracket made up to hold them there.

Too many options, why couldn't I just leave it how it was haha.

In my opinion, loose the stripes, stick a matching badge on the front to the rear you already have, 10's, perhaps arches that aren't as wide or loose them too lol.

Or if none of that takes your fancy then just make sure the white stripes come off :)

I swear this is turning into a build thread slowly :)

Well I have done it, since posting a few weeks ago a lot has changed! The stripes have gone, lots of stickers have come off as well as the mud flaps, the wheel arches are off all together and most importantly I am now rolling on 10x4.5's which is absolutely awesome!

Converting the brakes...
