So tired of cars like this, its been done to death, forcing rat on a car and trying way too hard. I'm all for Patina on an old barn find preserving the original paint, but gluing beer bottle tops to the seams of a Mini and filling the roof rack with junk, just why?

And to think people restore cars on a budget scrimping together whatever they can to make a car perfect, junk like this which has been attacked with paint stripper and irrelevant things bolted to it gets featured in magazines

We feature both though.

I don't think Sam's intention was to get a magazine feature, just to try something new. I wouldn't build a rat look Mini myself but I like what he's done with this one.

Actually I really like Rat Look (or prat look if that's what people want to call it), what I tire of is rat look snobbery and people dictating what is and what isn't acceptable. Far from being done to death, the classic mini scene is probably only full of a handful of these cars anyway. They always create a fair bit of attention at shows and they help create bit of variety. They're not for everyone and it would be very dull if every other mini looked that way, but that simply isn't the case. Ultimately they represent what classic mini ownership in particular is all about, creating something fun, that's a bit different to what everyone else is driving.

In my opinion what's been done to death is contrasting coloured roofs, bonnet stripes and an overdose of tacky chrome.... Yawn!!

........oh & remember!!!!

I think this is one of the best rat look minis around. In my mind a rat look car should look like it's been sat in the California sun for 40 years so you're not going to get many British Minis looking that way. The bottle tops and roof rack look good in my opinion. If every show was filled with concours condition Minis all polished to perfection it would be a pretty drab scene.

I've met Sam and his Mini. I'd love a rat Mini but I would only ever do it if I happened to buy a complete banger (and a very late one).

I really like what he has done to his - love the 50's pin up stuff inside too, defo gives it a retro theme (I think this is on the headliner if I remember).

:D :D :D :D :D yep

To be fair though, I bet that's what most of the people who see it think

Edit: obviously he doesn't care though, which is good because he is happy with it and yes alot of effort, but looks silly IMO

Why people feel the need to disrespect someone and their choice of style is beyond me. It's their car and their choice so if you don't like it why comment? O_O

Alright keep your hair on. And it's a forum, are we not allowed to have an opinion anymore?

Keep it to yourself, it's boring. Would you like it if someone criticised your mini that you've put time, effort and money into just because it's different and not to everyone's taste?

He drives a mini that looks like that, do you really think he cares what people on a forum think?
