Great build.

Why did you deciede not to rebuild the original engine and replace it with a later unit?

The engine colour for a 78 should be black

Thanks, I just wanted to build an as new a car as possible and there were a few of these units still available so no hassle reconditioning the engine or box, hopefully, it is a Mini engine afterall so fingers crossed.

I think I'll leave it red now as it is a replacement it just shows the change, I'm not going for outright originality.

Just a quick update, progress is slow as my ram on my engine crane is faulty. Machine Mart have picked up the ram but did not replace it. So 10 days later I am still waiting for the repaired ram to be returned to me :(

Before you put it in consider painting the engine black, not only original Leyland colour, but will look better as the mileage progresses, also easier to keep it looking good as you can easily touch it up.
Looking good.

I'm going to remove the auxillaries soon and repaint but I'm not convinced with the black as it never really brightens up the bay, but it does make sense.

Need some nice weather, too many cobwebs. Thought you might like to see the inside of the car unpainted. Still need to seam seal:

Boot waiting to be polished, a bit to cold for me to wet and dry at the moment, even if I had the time:

I haven't got that far yet, have only bought a new main loom and rear loom but I'm guessing I will have to adapt the main loom?

Spoke yesterday on the phone re. GT stripes :). Just to add another aspect to it, it painted my engine blue! I am looking to get hold of an original A series 1275GT engine to rebuild and keep in the corner of the garage should I decided to go for originality at some point. Do your donors have engines?

Hi, good to chat yesterday, happy to customise colours etc as discussed. Unfortunately all the donor engines are now gone, sorry.
