After sending picture which they requested my quote has risen £300 despite telling them absolutely everything? They can whistle there's no way I'm paying £2800 tpft

Well.....unless you can find someone cheaper, then that's what your paying if you want to go on the road.

Puzzles me a little why you'd drive a modded car knowing full well that the premiums are through the roof even for standard cars.

Puzzles me the way you presume I've done it, not that I have to explain myself. I bought the car like that and just been honest about what it's got...

Make no mistake, it doesn't bother me at all one way or the other. The point being...why not just buy a bog standard completed unmodded car and at least not get penalized for modifications as a young driver?

It's like making your own sandwiches then complaining about the filling come lunchtime.

I just wondered why someone would have their eyeballs torn out with insurances premiums for a modded car when a standard one would be much cheaper.

I'm not for one minute suggesting you should hide the mods from the insurers - I've done the fast cars at 17-21 and much more radical than a modded mini 1000....it's just that back then we didn't get ripped off as bad as you do guys do now.

Because you don't know what's standard if you've got the knowledge I have, obviously a big exhaust isn't standard but something as little as a chrome aerial instead black can void insurance

That's not what was puzzling me - I wondered why people would knowingly buy a modded car as a first vehicle.....

You're completely right to declare anything if in any doubt.

not sure if already said but:

Arian Flux have a department specifically for minis and VW Bugs

Im with them and my insurance was confusing because i have a smaller than original engine and my insurance is not too much

all i need to do is take photos of the millage, engine serial number and various profiles of the car

Another way to try to get cheaper insurance is to negotiate a millage cap as that was cheaper.

also get a car with ZERO modifications for me it took time

Hope this helps other 17yo in the future

Adrian Flux have always been good or there's also Flux Direct (same company obviously). Just had a quote from them for £200 for an MGZR160 on a new policy with no NCD used and no limitations fully comp (I am a lot lot LOT older than 17 mind you), but this is a cheaper quote than I had from others even if using my NCD on the policy . As mentioned above this is frightening reading these figures you lot are getting quoted. Maybe try ringing the insurance companys instead of just internet quotes then trade them off against each other for you business, as after all don't forget at the end of the day they want your money so might do a better deal via the phone.

Good luck.

I have a 998 '89 Mayfair with fibreglass front, wider wheels & arches with a sparco steering wheel, HIC were the cheapest for me with the mods coming to 200 a month (total of just under 2k a year) and I'm 18! Let's hope it drops a considerable amount next year huh
