Head Gasket Problem

your supposed to do that after the first heat cycle anyway.

Get engine upto temp after fitting, allow it to cool down.

Then retorque head..back each nut off a touch then retorque..in correct order Go to the full post

Hi i have replaced my head gasket when i ran up the engine there is small amounts of water bubbling

from  between the gasket and the block

 

i have changed a few in the passed and this has never happened i have the gasket the correct way

up and done the head to 68n

could someone give advise

Have you calibrated your torque wrench recently ?

Most read a little light.

 

Undo and retorque the nuts one at a time in the correct order but do them up to 50 lb/ft.

did you check that the head wasnt warped before replacing it

No i have nt its a bit old alright, is it safe to undo and retorque with the system full of water

we've had this a few times copper gaskets always did it on us even with a head skim..

We use the composite ones now...

Normally it goes after a while

Would you loosing off one head nut at a time and then re torque?? in the correct order

Copper cylinder heads are doing this. Rover issued a note to fit them 'wet' (clean them with oil) at a certain point..

Start up the engine and warm it up just a little bit before filling up with water.

Remember to cool down the engine before re-torqueing or you'll end up with a snapped stud (not that they dont snap even when doing correctly..)
