Hello everyone,

As we all know, Minis aren't the most reliable (well mine isn't anyway) so most of the time my mini is sat in the driveway maiting to be worked on. I have a lot of time this summer to work on it, which means it won't be running loads. However at the age of 17 i want to drive! My mum is selling her fiesta for £600 so i may buy that and insure on it (£1300 for me fully comp etc.) but that means i may have to cancel insurance on the mini while i work on it :(

Any tips on what i should do? Should i get the fiesta and drive that and do up the mini over the summer? Please help, i'm in such a dilemma! haha

Depends how long you need the mini off the road for and how much you've got to do on it. Why not buy the Fiesta, insure yourself on it and then sell the Fiesta and transfer the insurance over when your mini is done. Or get your mum to put you on her new car temporarily as a second driver, works out cheaper.

Only problem is the Mini won't be insured in case of theft or fire if you have an accident working on it O_O

Could always see if your mum would get insured on the Mini just to cover it when it is off the road - probably wouldn't cost much at all.

Basically, i worked it all out and overall i would theoretically spent £1100 on the fiesta + insurance

That's with refund from mini insurance taken off and i reckon i may be able to sell the fiesta for that (ish) if i wanted to aslong as i do it after the mot in october.

I'd probably need a few months on the mini as i have exams at the moment so don't really have time to work on it :(

Also i couldnt afford both cause i'd rather spend the money on mini parts, seems more logical :)

Found out if i wanted to move back to the mini, insurance is only 1k this time, compared to 1.5k in january :D

You can get lay up insurance for the mini so at least it will have some cover.

That sucks about not insuring, they tried to bump my fiesta insurance up £100 (to 1380) and said the deal was through Aviva so i went to Aviva and got a direct quote and it was only 1140 so got £240 off, i was so happy! Haha
