Best Answer lrostoke , 11 May 2013 - 05:06 AM

That's pretty much the technique I use, although we do it 2 man and instead of starting an edge off 1 person holds window against the frame in correct position, 2nd person in car pulling the string

having a bit of lube always helps, lots of people say soapy water but washing up liquid is apparently quite abrasive and will encourage rust, so recommend silicone spray or glass cleaner,

Yes and no! Lubrication is a very good idea, and washing up liquid is bad, as it contains salt, but I for one would not want silicones anywhere near my paintwork, as the slightest trace of silicone will make it impossible to respray or touch up the paint in the event of damage, and it is very difficult to get rid of all traces. Silicones are great, but only in the right places.

You can get rubber grease, which if it does not contain silicones, should be ok, but clean it off afterwards. I don't mean the red brake grease used in wheel cylinders etc, which you really do not want near your paintwork, as it is based on brake fluid, a well known paint stripper. hi all

Well the side windows are in, it was pretty easy in the end, the KY jelly did help in the tight areas.

Now it's the front and rear screens, is it the same way as the side windows?

thanks again for all the reply's

Front and rears I do slightly different.

Fit the seal to the frame.

Jam the screen into the seal at the bottom then work round peeling back the seal over the glass.

You really need the proper insert tool to fit the sealing strip
