Hello guys just a few quick easy questions.

Just bought a JVC head unit designed to run on 12 volts. Do i need a inline fuse between this and the battery (as im running it straight off the battery) and what size fuse would i need?

Secondly the wires out the back of the head unit says red is accessories and yellow is power but on the adapter it says red is power and yellow is blank? Which color wire do i run to the battery? the missy says red as it changes over in the adapter? Just checking shes correct?

Also whats a power antenna wire for? (blue)

and a random blank orange wire?

Many thanks simon :)

I would probably fuse the stereo, simply find out the total peak RMS power it provides and divide it by 12 to give you the maximum number of amps it will consume (I'd guess at it being roughly 10 amps). You can then get a fuse of that value but remember that it is always better to have a fuse of a slightly lower value than one of a slightly higher value! I know you said your running it off the battery but is there any way of using fuse box already there? If you have space you simply need to find a switched live and you're good to go!

Ahhhh and thanks i would run it off the fuse box but everything ive touched on the mini so far has caused massive problems. Currently it wont start and has a big hole under the wheel arch and sheered bolts. :/

you need to fuse any cable, the purpose is to avoid metled wires or worse. so the rule is, if it does't have a fuse, fuse it to the correct value for the cable.

Just got my first mini the other day and took out the old stereo that the previous owner put in there. Was pretty easy to wire it up, just banged and iso adapter on the end and after a lot of electrical tape it worked! I've got a random orange wire too, no idea what its used for. On the wiring harness I had it said dashboard illumination, but I don't know. The blue one you're talking about is for if you have an aerial that extends when the stereo is on, or as Ive used it for in the past it sends a signal to am amp/subwoofer to turn it on.

The orange dash illumination wire could be wired to your instrument lights. This means when you turn you lights on it dims the head unit screen. This makes it not so bright at night time (when you should have your lights on!). I did this on my alpine HU, I also had the option of dimming level which was kinda handy.
