Hi,

I wonder if anyone can tell me about wheels spacers.

Sorry if its a basic question... I have standard 12" mini lites on and would like them to stick out just an 1" more. I wheel spacers on ebay all the time. How do they work, do they just bolt to the hub and you botl the wheel to them, or do you use longer bolts.. Sorry just don't get it.

ALso any implication in using them ?

cheers

If you're going to use them, use the ones where you replace the bolts for longer bolts, don't get the screw on type.

I used an inch spacer on my car so I could get 10inch wellers on a 8.4" brake set-up. Worked fine with zero issues apart from the occasional bump steer.

They will increase stress on wheel bearings and suspension components, but as long as everything is in good working order you should be fine. Fitting a wider wheel will put a similar amount of stress on the components.

There are two types, screw on extensions with spacer plate, or longer studs & a spacer. The extensions are not considered a very good or reliable option. The better option but slightly more time consuming is the longer studs. If you have drum brakes the best option all round is to have longer studs & brake drums with built in spacer. Standard on the rear of later minis or superminifins (alloy bodied drums with cooling fins). The various mini specialists can supply any of these parts.
