Oh good lord!! ![]()

To be fair you've only mentioned buying a shell without a V5, you've not actually mentioned anything about what your going to do with it. For all I know you could be planning to make a trailer or BBQ out of it, in which case the lid on the proverbial can might yet stay on!! ![]()

you shouldnt have an issue buying a shell without an identity, but registering it for road use would require an IVA test which would be an expensive and tricky thing to do,
agree with the can of worms statement though...

Not to mention you don't know where that shell came from..... even if you do use it as the basis for off road competition you don't want to be in possession of stolen goods.

most of the later minis had the chassis number stamped in the scuttle channel, but then a vehicle doesn't just 'lose' its identity.

If you have no way of identifying the shell and reclaiming the ID from DVLA, it is not very difficult to find a spare Mini V5 out of the millions issued........many Mini enthusiasts have broken up rusty or damaged Mini's for spares over the years (with nothing stolen involved) and have still got a valid V5 or two tucked away for future use with a BMH shell maybe.......just don't talk about it on public forums!
