My mini is currently sitting on 13x6 wellers and i'm wanting to go down to 10 inch steelies. I've tried my brothers standard steelies on my brakes, they fit over the back superfin drums, but do not fit over my front brake discs, upon further investigation, i have found out they are 8.4 inch discs... So i had 2 options, brake conversion or spacers... Since moneys tight, i was going to go down the spacer route.

Now i know there are disadvantages (wheel bearings come to mind) but i still want to do this, i was just wondering... What size spacer would i need for these wheels...
http://www.minisport...fo_21A1286.html

to fit over them? obviously i'd buy 4 so the back match the front even though i don't need them... But it seems like i have a choice from, 5mm, 10mm or 19mm.... instinctively i would have gone for 19mm but thats just because i'd want some poke :) Would the cooper s wheels fit over my 8.4 disc brakes with 19mm spacers??

EDIT: Also i do realise that i need to replace both front wings to do this don't worry :)

those wheels will never fit over the callipers

with a big enough spacer the wheel will fit outside of the calliper, your likely to need something around 25-30mm

and don't forget to change the wheel studs

Okay, now that you say that i do recall seeing some 10 inch wheels that looked like they were on the outside of the calipers... thanks for the help bungle i'll make sure i find the right size... ideally i'd change the brakes but hopefully spacers will suffice until i can afford it.

Ive got 10" wheels on mine that were on when i bought it the spacers are huge i think its something daft like 1.25 inch spacers, so ive bought some 12's instead.

Those very wide spacers are about the most unsafe thing you can do.

WHS^^^ I am surprised Bungle even suggested it. Unless you plan on sitting the mini in the garage and looking at it without ever driving it then spacers really aren't the way to go. I have had the misfortune of seeing a mates car trashed because of a wide spacer causing a failure. Luckily no one was injured.

Those spacers screw-up the loading on the swivel pins, put a cantilever loading on the wheel bearings, alter the track to wheelbase ratio, change the steering geometry so that it is no longer within limits for accuracy and generally make the car look ridiculous.

Why would someone do this to a classic car?
