Im running a standard non ballasted DLB 101 12 volt coil on a mini 1000 that has electronic ignition, Spec for coil states for points use but Powerspark say can be used with their elctronic ignition kits.

Is this coil ok,or do i need a coil specifically for electronic ignition as I dont know make of my electronic ignition.

It doesnt have seperate black box on dizzy.

Reason I ask is that the wire from coil to fuse box melted other day, though small wire from dizzy to coil had earthed on metal dizzy bracket which may have caused short, or did heat generate in wiring causing it to weld to bracket.

Any help apprecaited. car needs a tune and bit jerky at low revs didnt know if coil was an issue.

Does the electronic ignition have a red and black wire coming out ??

How is it all wired..

Was it originally non ballast or has it been converted.

It has red black wire coming out dizzy, car has had new engine with electronic dizzy, one previous on old engine was points dizzy, and coil is one that was on that engine ie for points . It appears to be non ballasted now with 12 volt feed from fuse box,

You can measure the resistance across the + & - terminals (disconnect all wires) to ascertain what coil it is

3ohms = 12v

1.5ohms = ballast

1ohm = Factory Electronic

Thanks for that, yes looks like a 12 volter so hopefully should be compatable, think it needs good tune as plugs are sooty ie too rich, but when you weaken mixture screwing jet up runs really jerky,and has crap tickover, so choice is too rich it drives, weaken its a jerky affair
