Re the heel board bolts - after having given them a while soaking in Plusgas or the like (and if using Plus Gas you want Formula A) try and tighten them a tiny bit (that means just a smidge or a tweak) before trying to undo them, this is often enough to break the rust seal.

Something told to me years back and seems to help is to do things up just a little before you undo them..........
Probably something to do with not pulling loose corrosion into the thread, but letting it drop out.

Not gunna lie buddy that rear subframe doesn't look like its at deaths door, if I was you I would give it a hell of a good wire brushing and see what it comes up like, looks mostly surface rust to me in those picture.

What I would look at is where the radius arm attaches to the frame, it could be more corroded there hence the fail

On a bad note I can spot oversills too, sorry to inform you on that.
But I would try a wire brush and then review the situation

Hope this helps
Lawrence

Im going to look on the computer at work tommorow (mot station) at rfr's for shock absorbers, as far as im aware the failures are distorted, serious fluid leak, excessively corroded, shock absorber bushes deteriorated resulting in excessive movement, etc.. Are you sure thats a failure item and not just an advisory?

Once you have pulled the rear subframe and if not servicable then you need to strip the radius arms from the frame, at this point be prepared to be purchasing 2 x recon raduis arms and a number of hours swapping brake systems over.

Sounds like possible hours of fun ahead, I gonna try the wire brush tip and see, it has been welded before, so I dont know

Technically yes but the dampers are often incorrectly referred to as shock absorvbers
